Logged onto Lightroom Classic and discovered that one of my collections-labeled Instagram had changed. Instead of the one collection with that name there were 2 collections. One named Instagram and one named Instagram 2. I did not do this. The number of images in each did not concide with the number in the original collection.
I found one image im my catalog that I knew was in the original collection. I clicked on the icon in the lower right indicating it was in a collection-Instagram. I clicked on it and the entire original collection appeared. I deleted the 2 incorrect collections and created a new one naming it Instagram and put all of the images into it. The next time I logged on the new one I had created was gone and those 2 other ones were there.
Then I created a new collection. Named it New and put all of the correct images into it. When I logged on again my New collection was there PLUS those 2 collections labeled Instagram and Instagram 2.
Now- those 2 collections both have the correct # of images and in the correct order. So all 3 collections have the correct # of images BUT I cannot get the images in the New collection to be arranged as the other 2. The original Instagram collection (including these two are arranged by Custom).
My ? is not just the arrangement of the images but what the hell is going on

Your screenshot shows the Instagram collection is synced with LR Cloud:
There have been lots of other reports that sync can mangle the contents of collections. I had thought that bug was fixed, and I don't recall seeing new versions of collections being created.
First troubleshooting steps:
1. Pause syncing with the LR Cloud. Does the problem stop?
2. Do the menu command Help > System Info. Which exact version number of LR re you running?

I've been able to narrow down my problem. There were 2 collections in Lightrom Collections -one labeled Instagram and one labeled New. They both had the exact same images in each. It was like that for several days until yesterday. The New collection is gone. The instagram one instead of having 516 images just has 121.
I'm thinking now that there must be something going on with the indiviual files. I stopped syncing with Adobe Lightroom but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I caled Adobe 5 times and was disconnected each time. They don't call you back and they said it was a network problem.
I am still able to recover all of the original images in the original collection by typing the keyword that I attached to each image.
