Disappearing photos

Contributor ,

I've rated some photos by giving them stars. After adding Keyword Tags and EXIF metadata these photos just magically disappear from my collection.

I'm sure they're somewhere in Lightroom. Where can I find them?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have any filters applied, that when you rated these photos, are making them disappear?

Check the filter icon in the top bar.

I think the best way to go about selecting photos is to pre-select in Brigde. Save in folder. Import folder into Lightroom. That's it. No issue with losing photos by applying (what seems to be handy) ratings.

Maybe it's a noob thing but ratings don't work for me at the moment.

Selondon,

The filters were applied. The photos disappeared after adding Keyword Tags and EXIF metadata. Before that the photos could be found by using filters.

Are you in a smart collection, or a regular old collection?

Have you tried changing the sort order in the collection? (if the sort order is set to edit date, the photos now may be at the end of the collection).

The foolproof method to finding photos anywhere in Lightroom is the following 4 step procedure, in which you must follow ALL FOUR steps. I emphasize this is a four step procedure and all four steps must be followed, because in the past, although I told people to follow ALL FOUR steps, some people would simply apply steps 1 and 2, but not steps 3 and 4, and then report back that it didn't work.

  1. Click on All Photographs
  2. expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)
  3. turn off all filters (in the filter bar, click on None)
  4. Search for at least one of these disappearing photos by file name, using the filter bar

I've run a test. It appears that after I add Keyword Tags and EXIF metadata the star ratings disappear. So the photos don't disappear, the star rating goes to zero (no rating). If you have a lot of pictures in your collection, like I had in my situation, it looks like you've lost your photos, but they're still there. They're just not rated anymore, after you add Keyword Tags and EXIF metadata. Which is odd.

This should not be happening if defaults or filters are not touched. how about that screenshot, something is being overlooked via words, a picture is worth a thousand words.

How about a screenshot of your library module situation, the entire screen with upper and lower panels shown.
