I've been encountering the same issue when attempting to move a file from Lightroom to Photoshop using the "Edit in Photoshop" link. I get this error: "Lightroom is not allowed to control Photoshop. Make sure this is allowed in System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Automation".
I've only been experiencing this since recently updating my programs with the May 2025 updates. Anything you can recommend to resolve?

I was able to correct this issue by reinstalling LR from the Creative Cloud app (originally installed the update from the Apple App store). For whatever reason, this resolved the issue. Sharing in case anyone else encounters this issue.

The error message says it all. You need to go to MacOS System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Automation, and make sure that Lightroom Classic is added.

The issue in with Lightroom, not Lightroom Classic. Lightroom Classic is working fine (ie I can use the Edit in Photoshop feature) and appears in Automation application list but Lightroom does not and I don't see any way it can be added.

There should be a small plus icon at the bottom left to add applications manually.

I'm not seeing a plus icon on that screen. When I google adding an app to Security>Automation, the consensus seems to be it needs to be added by the app itself. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Lightroom and Photoshop and still am getting the same error. Here is a screenshot of my Automation window within System Settings.

I'll have to check that later, as I'm using my iPad right now. Are you logged into an administrator account? If not, you are not allowed to add applications to Privacy & Security settings. Yes, the app should ask permission itself, but you should then give it. If an app could add itself without any permission from you, then this setting would be meaningless.

OK, I checked it and indeed the app should add itself to the list, but then there's a switch that you need to activate. If Lightroom did not add itself to the list at all, then the advice is to uninstall and reinstall it. Install Photoshop first, that might be important because if Photoshop is not installed, then Lightroom might not see the need to ask permission to control it.

Thanks for your assistance with this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both PS and LR, in that order and unfortunately that hasn't solved it. I am logged into my Mac as an administrator, and still don't have an option to add or see a switch for LR, only Lr Classic. No worries...I can still access photos in PS, just having to go the long way by opening them in PS so it's a not a huge deal. Once again, I greatly appreciate your assistance and hopefully this is something that might be fixed in a future update.

I followed these exact steps with my issue down to the uninstall and reinstall from the Creative Cloud app and have not been able to resolve this issue. Any advice after the reinstall fails to correct it? LRC works perfectly, just as this poster said in their issue.

Edit in Photoshop is not working. I have reinstalled LR and PS multiple times. Using the very latest versions of both. (installed today 19th August 2025). Any thoughts?

I'm having the same problems. I've tried everything, including help from Chat GPT. Nothing seems to work.

Hi Daniela,
I spoke with Tech Support. The issue occurred after the August (14.5) update. It was working up to that point. The Agent could not find the problem so it has been escalated to the LR support team as a bug. Going back to release 14.4 will get it to work until the bug gets fixed.

Check the following. There is a known issue if the file path of the image contains a ' in its name, for example like "John's Photos".
