Since this morning I've been struggling to solve the problem... 😞 I updated windows, I reinstalled LrC, I updated the video drivers... nothing!!!
Yesterday everything was going great, today I get this: Enhance Errors - There was an error writing the file. I tried with other RAW files, I also tried in Camera Raw. I have an NVIDIA Ge Force GTX 1050 and Intel UHD Graphics 630 video card.

Hey I am having the same exact issue! Were you able to find a solution? I'm using a Mac computer with canon R5 normal raw files.

@Kyle31105307u2qt, if you're seeing the Denoise error message "There was an error writing the file.", then see this previous post:
If you're seeing a different error message, then start a new thread and include a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of the whole error-message window.

I am having the same exact issue in this thread and read your response to the issue. The disk is not full, I tried changing the port nothing changed, and the files do not reside in a folder managed by drop box. I don't know what else it could be. It's driving me crazy!

Hi John,
I am getting the same issue and tried the link above to go to the previous post, however it keeps taking me to this post. I have a new Mac Pro, installed LRC, checked my preferences, and GPU, using raw files and I am still getting the 'writing error'.
Can you please help me.
Thank you,
Teri

Thanks John,
All methods to fix the problem aren't working. I am going to uninstall and reinstall LRC and see if that works. If it doesn't I am at a total loss 😞
Thanks again for your time, will let you know how I go.

Try putting a raw on the Desktop and importing it with the Add option, so the file remains on the Desktop in the LR catalog. Can Denoise write the DNG to the Desktop without error?

You are a genius, that has worked.
Is there something I can do on my laptop settings to enable an import straught from the SD to enable denoise? Hoping I don't have to add them to the desktop, to add them into lightroom everytime.
Thanks,
Teri

@Teri22: "I have a new Mac Pro"
1. When you import photos, are they getting copied to your laptop's internal drive or to an external drive?
2. If to an external drive, try giving LR Full Disk Access, as described here:

Hi John,
I updated my preferences earlier in the week and made sure LRC has full disk access. I checked using the above link and it's definitely on full disk access.
I'm Importing straight from the SD card via the SD card slot on my Mac, so I'm guessing external drive.
If this info helps.....I just removed my SD card from the slot and LRC gave me an explanation mark on the photos meaning it couldn't access the originals.
Thanks again for your help,
Teri

It sounds like you're using a Cfexpress memory card, a type of memory card much faster than SD cards. When you import, you're using the Add option, which tells LR to leave the photo on the card. When you remove the card, LR can no longer access the photos, so it marks them with "!". It appears that Denoise doesn't like writing the denoised DNGs back to the card.
With the more widely used SD cards, LR doesn't provide the Add option, just Copy, and Import copies the photos to whichever folder on your hard drive you've specified in Import. But Mac OS treats Cfexpress cards like external drives and tells LR that's what they are, so LR provides you with the Add option, which can lead to confusion (as you've experienced).
So instead of using Import's Add option, use Copy to copy imported photos to the Mac's local drive (e.g. under the Pictures folder).

"There was an error writing the file"
A few others have reported this error message. LR is very bad at giving details about the underlying causes, but some reported causes include:
1. The disk is near full.
2. The USB port connecting to the external disk was flaky, and reconnecting to another port avoided the problem.
3. The raw file resides in a folder managed by Dropbox or a similar service.

I have a similar issue . Error code when using AI Denoise . If I copy the NEF Raw file to the desk top it works fine. This issue is on a new Mac Mini M2 Pro with an external drive . This same drive and cables works fine on my other older Mac with Lightroom and the Denoise tool just fine! Help !
