Can anyone advise on file naming protocol in Export presets please.
I want to name my image files with a string of 5 letters foloowed by three numbers from 001 t0 999. The problem I'm having is that a troublesome character gets in between the letters and the numbers so I end up with a fienamed, for example, ABCDE-123 instead of what I want which is ABCDE123.
Grateful for any advice.
Regards

F2 (Function Key 2) is the universal keyboard shortcut for renaming a photo in Lightroom-Classic.
Creating Custom Rename Presets:
1) -Select any photo in the Library,
2) -Press [F2], then
3) -click the Drop-down arrow on the File naming panel
4) -Choose [Edit...] from the List of Presets

Unless your problem with the 'dash' is specific to Mac OS, then you should be able to design a Rename template without the dash (in the Filename Template Editor).
Works for me in Windows-OS. Note no dash between ABCD and the {Sequence # (001)>>}

The dash as an unintended addition can also happen when the file naming template contains only text. Then Lightroom adds a dash and a number.. e.g. filename.jpg, then filename-2.jpg would be next, filename-3.jpg, etc.
To answer my fellow Community Expert, @Rob_Cullen as well, there's no issuing using the dash in a file naming template on Mac, or not in this case.

Thank you both. I'm a Fuji X fan too with, currently, 4 X-series cameras.
I do have a problem with the dash in a file name. All of my 20,000 to 30,000 images are filed in a carefully planned system I designed when I moved from film to digital about 20 years ago. On the advice of an expert when I first started to save digital files (JPEGs and RAWs) I came up with using exactly 8 characters in file names. He explained the technical reasons for choosing 8 characters but it was beyond me to understand. Nevertheless I persevered and over the years now have all of those images with 8 characters and no dashes. I can find any of them within a few minutes even without remembering the exact file name. However, having a dash inserted in a name places files in the wrong sequence in my archive. Some years ago I was told how to create a Lightroom preset that removed the dash and have been using successfully ever since - until I bought this new MacBook Pro and downloaded the latest LR Creative Cloud where the dash is back in my attempts to export picture files to my hard drives.
I wonder if my problem is in not remembering how to creat a file naming template? My custom template of 5 letters and 3 numbers is still there in an older version of LR in my 9 year old MacBook but that one no longer recognises RAW files and doesn't provide any clues to how I created the template.
I wonder if you could advise on where I find the area in LR to create a custom export template?
Regards and, again, my thanks.
Chris
