Could someone please tell me if, when you are making and archival copy of your photos from the external drive you are using in LR to a never-used-in LR external drive, you need to accomplish this while in LR, or if, in Windows, you can just bring up both drives in My Computer or whatever and just send from the one drive to the other.
Thank you,
Al Marotta
Al, the reason you don't understand the response is because you've inadvertently posted your question in the part of the forums which is dedicated to Lightroom CC, which is the old name given to a new cloud-centric app....so blame Adobe for the confusion.
No matter, to your question. You can't actually make a copy of your images inside Lightroom, so you need to be working outside Lightroom for that. Suggest you look at using a standard incremental backup utility to keep the archive/backup up-to-d

Once the image files are in Lr CC there is no link to their location on your drive. Move or copy as you wish.
Test it. Add a image from a drive to the Lr CC system then Rt Click it. There is no 'Show in Explorer/Finder').
This is unlike what we are used to in Lr CC Classic wherewith we would want to move linked files from within Lr but if we left the originals as is we could use the operating system to copy them for archival.

I thank you for your kind response but I'm afraid I don't get what you are saying. Are you saying "yes, you are free to go from one external hard drive to another without being concerned about LR (I have version 5) at all?
Thanks,
Al

Jim, thanks for your good words. Would it be stretching your patience for you to tell me just what forum I should be on and where to find it?
Thanks,
Al
