I recently upgraded LRc to v14 and the filter malfunctions on collections : it is a bug ?
- When I switch on the filter based on attributes-rating, no photos are retrieved : see screen captures.
- This bug just happens when I am in a collection. Meanwhile the same filter works normally in a folder !
My hardware and software:
- MacOS Ventura 13.6.9 with MacMini M1
- LRc v14.0.1

It's working correctly on my Mac and Windows LR 14.0.1.
First, restart your computer. If the problem persists, try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.
---
If resetting preferences doesn't help, please post full-resolution screenshots of the ENTIRE LR window with and without the star filtering enabled. That could give important clues.

Hello and thanks for helping me
but... LRc does not work better when preferences have been reset.
Please find screen captures with and without filter on the same collection.
I fear I have to revert to v13 !

Try these steps:
1. In the Library Filter bar's top-right corner, select the filter preset "2 étoiles+".
2. Click the preset menu again and do 'Delete preset "2 étoiles+"'.
3. Click the preset menu again and do "Restore default presets". (That won't affect any custom presets you've saved.)
4. Restart LR.
5. In the Library Filter bar, change the Attribute filter to >= 2 stars. Do the 2-star photos now show in the collection?
Very rarely, LR corrupts built-in and custom presets, and you have to reset them.

I have followed your advice : delete the 2etoiles+ preset and restore defaults and restart LRc.
Alas I have the same result : no photos displayed again when rating >= 2...

Hmm, these are unusual symptoms. A couple more troubleshooting steps:
1. Select all the photos in the collection and in the Collections panel, click + and then Create Collection, Include Selected Photos. Does this copy of the collection also have the problem? If it doesn't, then that suggests the collection has been corrupted in the catalog somehow.
2. Select all the photos in the collection and do File > Export As Catalog, with these options:
Open the exported catalog by double-clicking its .lrcat file. Does the collection in the exported catalog also have the problem?

Hello
- Test 1 with a new collection in the same catalog has the same trouble
- Test 2 with a new catalog is ok !
I have done a test with 2 collections selected and then filter : the results are ok ! Strange isn't it ?

It sounds like the indexing in the catalog is screwed up, which happens very infrequently (based on the reports here). Doing Export As Catalog generally rebuilds all the indexing. Exporting your entire catalog as a new catalog would be a workaround, though you'll loose the contents of publish-service collections (e.g. Smugmug, Flickr).

Now it works !
I can't understand what has happened...
It seems that filter now suddenly works normally after I have clicked on the drop-down of the filters' list (see red arrow) and select alternatively different preset filters then select no filter...
I also remember, when LR malfunctions, that I have seen a message like "2 étoiles et plus" and "Photos utilisées" (in french) when rating >= 2 stars was selected. And now only "2 étoiles et plus".
What is this message "Photos utilisées" ? Can it helps to understand why there was an error ?

Your screenshots are showing differently named collections that are selected: "image restoration", "test mathstic", "20241126 mathstic". The issue might be specific to a particular collection, e.g. "image restoration". So in your testing, are you always choosing "image restoration"?

Sorry to have included different collections but the bug I have seen was with any collection (I have checked). It was not specific to a particular one...

Got it. If filtering is now working, obviously I'd suggest not worrying about this issue (unless it happens again). Very infrequently, even after working through all the standard troubleshooting steps, LR is just flaky.

Yes you are right John : I won't search about the origin of the bug I had !
I think you have pointed out the probable origin of this bug which is somewhere around the filter presets because the bug has stopped when I have browsed in the list of filters' presets...
Thanks again John.
Thanks also for these exchanges that lead me to the plugins you have written for LRc.
I will try at least anyCrop plugin which should be something useful as I am always pesting about the cropping tool in LRc which cannot be accurate without a zoom.
