Importing .ORF RAW files from my Olympus O-MD E-M10

New Here ,

I have just downloaded Lightroom 5 after being told by Olympus that this would support my E-M10. However, this does not seem to be the case. I nderstand there is a plug in that allows Lightroom to read files from the E-M5 which has the same sensor so this should work for my E-M10. However, the Adobe site is so difficult to navigate that I have given up trying to find the correct patch and can't find a phone number to call.

Anybody got any ideas?

As of today, Lightroom does not support this camera.

Adobe has release preliminary support for this camera in their DNG Converter version 8.4 RC, which you can use to convert your RAWs to DNG and then import those into Lightroom.

Future versions of Lightroom will support this camera.

For clarity, Lightroom doesn't operate on the basis of patches or plug-ins to add updated support (you're probably thinking of ACR in Photoshop) - Lr is self-contained, and new camera support only comes with updated versions of the software.

I just got an E-M10 and Lightroom freezes when I try to import a card with the RAW files on it. I got around the issue on my Windows PC by reinstalling LR 5.6, but on my MAC (the machine I do most my processing on) I can't get it to work.

There may be some driver or other USB-device interfering with communication from the camera/card to LR so try unplugging extra USB devices and see if the condition clears up. Are there any camera updates for OS updates for your Mac?

Is your camera/card listed down under the Import Sources / Files section in addition to the Devices section? You might try importing form the Files section.

If you can’t get things to work in LR, directly, then try copying the raw files from the camera/card to your hard-disk using Finder without LR open, and then import from that location in LR, so the camera/card isn’t connected when you are actually using LR.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did already try copying the files to the local HD and got the same result, as soon as you click import Lightroom freezes up.

I am not on Mavericks as it has horrible font smoothing problems.

Given both Windows and the MAC were having the same problem, I rather think it is a LR problem.

Are you saying the Import grid populates with all the photos ok, but when you click Import on the lower right LR freezes?

Can you import JPGs?

Can you post one of the files to http://www.dropbox.com/ and I’ll try it on my Windows 8.1.

Thanks for your advice, it seems like there is a general problem with Lightroom importing anything to my data disk Om my Mac, the problem just happen to start when I got the E-M10!

I think I will go back to using Windows, between the iPhone, iPad and Mac, the whole "use apple, it just works" has been debunked.
