My files are stored on an external hard drive. I've never had trouble importing raw photos previously, but LR won't import the files from my new Sony RX100 vii.
The photos are already in your catalog, and should not be imported again. (Importing photos more than once is not a good practice and can cause further problems).
You need to find these photos in Lightroom Classic. Follow all four of these steps in order:
1. In the Lightroom Classic Library Module, on the left, under Catalog, click on All Photographs
2. Turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)
3. Turn off all stacking (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)
4. Search for at least one of these photos

Please tell us exactly what happens when you can't import the files. If there is an error message, please quote the exact complete unedited error message.

Are you connecting to the camera with a USB cable or importing from the memory card with a card reader?
Please describe in detail which steps you're taking and what you see. Full resolution screenshots of the entire LR window are worth many thousands of words.

Thanks. You're absolutely right. They were uploaded from a folder I put on my desktop when the files wouldn't open from my EHD. I'll do a search for them. Meanwhile, I took a new series of photos today, and they all uploaded directly from the EHD without a problem. Why files wouldn't upload from the EHD the last several times is a mystery to me, but I'm relieved that it all seems to be good now.

Double-check that LR is granted Full Disk Access (not Files And Folders):
Without it, Mac LR can act intermittently screwy.

Thanks again. Full Disk access had not been granted. Done!

When images are greyed out as those are, that is usually an indication that the images have already been imported into that catalog.
