Impossible to use Lightroom Classic Offline

New Here ,
Aug 12, 2023 Aug 12, 2023

Hi,

I would like to report something that might not be a "bug" per se, but may reflect on Adobe's policy and can be a real problem to some people: with the latest version of Lightroom Classic (12.4), it has become impossible to launch Lightroom without the app to check the subscription. The thing is that sometimes I take my computer to places where I do not have the internet (and am happy with this), but still need to edit pictures (I am a professionnal photographer and I need to edit a lot all year long). Today I had the displeasure to discover that I could not use Lightroom offline, which seems abnormal to me as I am paying for the yearly subcription.

Thank you very much for your attention and thank you if you could amend this policy.

Best regards,

Aude

open all adobe programs you intend to use while traveling and leave them minimized during travel.

Thanks, but I'm not talking here about a laptop. I'm using a tower computer, that I move sometimes for a few weeks. Not only can I not keep it turned on during travels, I also can't keep it turned on during weeks.

that's difficult to fathom for a number of reasons, but it is what it is.

If you are running Windows, then Hibernate rather than shutting the system off completely.  If you are physically moving the system, disconnect the keyboard and mouse as soon as the system hibernates.  Then when you get to your new location, plug in those devices and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the tips, I didn't know about hibernating. But can I hibernate if I unplug the power from the computer?

Are you signing out from the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App?

If so, why?

Signing out in the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App deactivates the Apps on the computer. As such you need to sign back in to activate them, but that requires Internet. If you do not sign out, then this problem would/should not occur.

the op's restarting their computer which is triggering av, anti-malware apps etc and that's probably removing their credentials.

Hi! No, I'm not signing out from the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app. I launched Lightroom Classic from the desktop shortcut I've installed. I seldom open the Creative Cloud App.

Curious thing is, later on today I cut the internet for a trial, then restarted my computer, and THERE Lightroom would open without problem (from my desktop shortcut, as usual). I'll try again tomorrow, starting the computer without the internet.

If you pay yearly, then it should be possible to run Lightroom Classic for three months without an internet connection. If you pay monthly then it should still be possible to run without a connection, but how long depends at bit on the circumstances. One thing you may want to do is start the Creative Cloud app automatically when you start the computer, and keep it running in the background at all times. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/internet-connection-creative-cloud-apps.html

@Aude316329353z7b

an annually paid subscription won't help with the problem you're seeing. eg, with monthly paid subscription, you're supposed to be able to use your apps for 30 days before needing to confirm your subscription:

Why do I have to sign in to use Creative Cloud apps?

You need to sign in periodically for licensing validation -- every 30 days for monthly members and every 99 days for annual members. Sign-in is also required when you download or update Creative Cloud apps. For more information, see Sign in to activate your Adobe apps.

and obviously hibernation is no help.  even if you had a laptop, that would not help.

the only sure way (for 30 or 99 days), is to get a laptop and minimize  the needed adobe apps. while you still have access.

if your credentials need to be restored tomorrow, it's security software "cleaning" your credentials.

I do this quite often and it always just works even when rebooting in a place with no internet. There should be a three month grace period where the creative cloud app doesn't need to check so not sure why it wouldn't work for you. Perhaps an issue with the computer's clock?

Thanks for your message. Well I tried again this morning and curiously it worked. So I just can't figure out why I had this message about the need to be connected and that it was impossible to use Lightroom Classic... Let's hope it'll last!
