Issue with Importing images

Community Beginner ,

Recently LC is no longer importing images.  I have tried to import directly from a CF card or SD card, also by copying to my hard drive first and then importing from hard drive, either way the import process shows the images to be imported but when I import all that shows in LC is grey boxes.  The import shows that the images were imported but the grey boxes do not respond to any develop or other module views.

I currently have more than 30,000 images in my LC catalog.

I am using an Apple Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.6 and LC 14.2.

What is happening? How can I fix this?

Is there an exclamation point icon on the grey boxes, as shown in Figure 2 here?

No, there is no exclaimation point in the box at the top right of the grey thumbnail.

I have followed the instructions in LR help to delete the preview profile file and to set the display color profile to sRGB ...

So now I see a grey thumbnail in Library Mode with a description in the bottom line of the screen (where the description always appears). If I switch to the Develop Module then the thunbnail appears and I can perform edits. In the Develop Module if I move to another thumbnail, the image appears but only 3 or 4 thumbnails are visible at any time. When I move to another thumbnail one that was showing will go grey.

This is true accross my entire catalog of images.

Thanks, I've tried updating the monitor profile and it didn't help.

I suspect that this is caused by a corrupted preview cache, which holds the Library previews.

This would not affect the Develop module, which uses its own, separate previews.

The fix is to delete the preview cache.

With LrC closed, use the Finder and go to the folder that contains your catalog.

if you don't know where it is, go to Lightroom menu > Catalog settings > General tab.

Click the Show button in the top right corner to open a Finder window.

Delete the folder (may display as a package) whose name ends with Previews.lrdata.

Do not delete anyhing else. Then launch LrC.

The previews will be recreated as you browse folders in Library.

You can also recreate all the previews in one operation, this will take some time, and is probably best done overnight.

Click on All Photographs in the Catalog panel, select all (Cmd+A), then go to Library menu > Previews > Build Standard sized previews.
