Lag when opening crop tool

New Here ,
Aug 25, 2025 Aug 25, 2025

When I open the crop tool in the develop module, I often have to wait 4-5 seconds before the tool appears.

Using a new Mac Mini M4, and happens with Sony A1 files, Sony A9 mark 1, and Sony A7r3 files.

Also happens on my 2017 iMac Pro.

Any advice? Everything else runs smoothly, no lag. Literally just opening crop I have to wait, which is annoying because I need to crop/rotate every image.

Hi @Andrew23667835prgu! Thank you for reaching out! I can understand it can be frustrating when a tool so vital slows down your work.

Could you please share the version of Lightroom Classic and the OS you're using? Meanwhile, you can try out these fixes and see if they fix anything:

1) Optimize your Catalog: A bloated or fragmented catalog can slow down editing tools. Go to File > Optimize Catalog.

2) Disable GPU Acceleration: Go to Lightroom Classic> Preferences > Performance. Under Graphics Processor Settings, uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" and restart LrC.

3) Camera Raw Cache: Try purging the existing Cache and increasing its size. This helps Lightroom load previews and edits faster. Go to Preferences > Performance and increase Camera Raw Cache to 10–20 GB.

3) Reset preferences: To reset the preferences, please check out this helpx article: How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences

Let us know how it goes!

Cheers!

Noel
