I have the current version of everything. When flipping between images, Lightroom pauses for anywhere between 3 & 8 seconds. It's frustrating as I am a professional who is editing thousands of images. Adobe! Please let me know what to do? It did this in previous versions as well.

Do you have the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP enabled?

Thanks John. Yes I do but I need the xmp data file for archiving. I have tens of thousands of raw files stored, and I store each job with is XMP's so i can just reimport if i need to do some more adjusting.

And I want to mention, it never hung like this till I updated 2 versions ago. For years it was fine.

Try disabling Automatically Write Changes Into XMP. If you use Denoise in conjunction with that option, a bug acknowledged by Adobe causes these symptoms:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-automatically-write-changes-to-xmp-can-t-be-...
But even if you don't use Denoise, there are some recent reports here of Automatically Write Changes causing similar symptoms. Adobe recommends turning it off:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html#LeaveautowriteXMPtu...
I prefer having that option enabled, and it worked well for me for 15 years, but with this recent bug (and a couple others), I've disabled it. We won't know whether Adobe will fix this until they do (they rarely indicate ahead of time).
