Lightroom 6 download?

I purchased Lightroom 6 (not CC) and have a serial number for it. I just purchased a new laptop and want to install. Went to My Account and Orders, and downloaded from that link.

Everything downloaded fine, but when I went to enter my serial number and I got this response in a yellow box:

This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another.

Underneath there is a dropbox with a selection, however, the list of "qualifying products" is Lightroom 1-5!

What the heck is going on? I don't understand why this download from my account isn't working... can anyone help?

You have purchased an upgrade version of Lightroom 6. Installing requires the new serial number as well as the serial number from your previous version.

I have only ever had Version 6.0 and I still have the installation CD that included the serial number.  Can you describe what version it would have originated from?

Well, this is the message you would get when installing an upgrade from a previous version. The qualifying serial number is the one you upgraded from. That would be Lr 4 or 5.

For a full standalone license there would be no prompt for a qualifying serial.

This is a long time ago. Are you sure you remember correctly?

I don't remember if upgrades were explicitly labeled as such on the case, the disc itself or the serial number sticker - probably the last.
