Lightroom Classic 11.2 freezes at import photos macOS

I'm importing photos from the same SD card I did yesterday to add to a catalog (a new catalog created for this project only) - but today LR just freezes at the import stage - no progress - and then the program won't quit.  I have to go into Activity Monitor and force quit.

I've restarted obviously but no joy - it does the exact same thing all over again.  I can read files from the SD card with no issue in other programs.

Another account - I always add one blank Admin account with every Mac system - just in case.

When I switched to that account of course I needed to login to Adobe (and my passwords etc are on the other SSD/account) - kind of a hassle so instead I decided to try booting from a copy of the system drive I just made a few days ago.

From there I was able to run LR (on my regular login) and import, and quit - as normal!  I kind of knew that would happen however, since this bugger just popped up in the

What version of Mac OS are you using?

Try copying the images from the SD card to a folder on your drive, then import into Lightroom Classic from there.

I'm on Catalina - 10.15.7 -  It's very repeatable right now.  I was able to copy the RAW files to my drive and import from there as a work around.

I will try resetting things as suggested by TDD and then move to the permissions step offered by nikunj if it doesn't work.

It might take some time to followup, but will post back with results - Thanks!

Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

Quit Lightroom Classic.
MacOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Lightroom Classic. If the steps suggested above didn't help, please ensure that Lightroom Classic has the necessary permissions on your Mac using the steps mentioned below:

1. Go to the System Preferences for your Mac, then Security and Privacy, then select the Privacy tab.

2. Then select Accessibility from the list to the left & check if Lightroom Classic is added to the list with a check mark in front of it.

3. If Lightroom Classic is not a part of the list, please add it by unlocking the window first using the lock at the bottom left, then clicking the + icon & navigating to the Applications folder.

4. Also, grant permissions to Lightroom Classic under Full disk access located in the same list as Accessibility.

5. Once done, restart the Mac & check if it helps.

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj

I'm back with results and unfortunately none of the above suggestions worked.

I also tried reformatting SD cards to no avail.

Reset prefs - easy

Altered permissions - added to Accessibility and allowed Full disk access - done

Restarted

It still exibits the problem though the freezeing problem is slightly different - it appears to try to quit now on exit - but still never does and must be force quit.

Is there a way I can force update over the same version - to reinstall?

Try logging into another account (you may need to make one): does it still crash?

If you boot into Safe mode (hold down Shift Key at boot): does it still crash?

Have you tried running a free utility like Onyx to see if that stops the crashing?

Back booting off the original drive and user account - I decided to give in another shot (maybe the 10th time would be the charm?).  To my suprise - it did work!

The only thing I can think is when I switched back to the original SSD drive to boot from again, MacOS spun up hard (fans on full) so I looked at activity monitor and saw MRT was the culprit.  Maybe something had found it's way into my system.  Who knows?  Whatever happened it now appears to have self resolved.

Total mystery.  Glad I now have it cleaned up - so I can run my full bootable backup again!

That it works from an older backup (or another account) indicates the crash is a conflict with something in that one account of the course and now the work is tracking down what's new or changed. Or you could if possible, just backup from that older HD. IOW, it isn't LR alone; it is something installed or interfering with LR that was updated or changed days ago.

Tracking it down might be a lot of work but not impossible.
