Lightroom Classic annoying issue with scroll bar in library

Explorer ,
Jul 01, 2019 Jul 01, 2019

Hi All,

This is probably a silly question but it is starting to annoy me. When navigating through the photos in the Library panel when using the Grid View I drag up and down the vertical scrollbar. Half of the time it works, when I drag the scrollbar down it moves the photos up (I am moving the scrollbar) .

My issue is that half of the time when I do the same it behaves as if I had a hand tool moving the photos. I mean, I click on the scroll bar and drag it down, instead of moving the photos up it moves them down (as if I were using a hand tool).

I suspect I am using some sort of control to change the behavior but I am not sure what.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Interesting. If you hover the mouse over the very thin vertical borders on the left and right edges of grid thumbnails, the cursor changes to a hand icon . Then when you click and drag, the photos move in the direction of the hand, as you've observed:

I've been using Lightroom for a decade and never noticed that before.

I can see how that would be useful sometimes, though it's fussy to get the mouse positioned correctly. Then again, using the small scroll bars in LR is pretty fussy.

If you hover the mouse over ANY of the 4 edges of ALL the thumbnails you will get the hand tool.  I too did not know about this.  It will come in handy once in awhile.

UPDATE.   except for the far left edge

I think I might have been clicking and dragging on the border of the scroll bar hence your explanation seems accurate and explains the erratic behavior.

Thanks a lot! it was driving me crazy

Actually, after testing a bit more I do not think this is he issue. When I click on the border the cursor changes to a hand

It happened to me again but I double checked and I am clicking on the scrollbar, not on the border. The cursor disappears, (no hand)

When it starts happening to me it keeps happening until I switch  back and fort between view modes.

using windows 10 64bits, Intel i5-7300U, 16GB Ram

I set Adobe CC with Autoupdates so using the latest versions.

Thanks

Can you please copy/paste here the entire output from the menu command Help > System Info? That could give clues about what might be going on.

I set Adobe CC with Autoupdates so using the latest versions.

Beware that CC doesn't reliably keep LR updated.  There are lots of people coming to these forums thinking they're on the "latest" but in fact are many versions out of date.

You're on a higher-resolution display, and historically, Windows LR has long had various issues with mouse position on these. So that could be one cause. (Though most recently, such problems have been in the Map module.)

It also looks like you're using a non-mouse pointing device (touchpad or pen)?  Does the problem occur when you're using a plain old mouse?

Just trying to narrow down where the problem might be...

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I have a laptop that sometimes I plug into the large monitor but sometime I work it stand alone. Also, I just got the Wacom intuos tablet but the problem was happening with or without (table and or monitor)

So test test my understanding, this happens when using a regular mouse on your laptop screen?

My only suggestion at this point is to file a bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom Classic | Photoshop Family Customer Community . It's unlikely Adobe would act on it unless they can reproduce it, which seems unlikely, given yours is the first report I recall seeing. If you could make a screen recording showing the bad behavior on your laptop with a regular mouse, that might make it a little more likely they'd pay attention.
