I have bought and used Lightroom 6 for a while now and saw the update today in the Adobe App. It said it will change from "Lightroom" to "Lightroom Classic" which just sounded like a name change and I went ahead and installed it.
Now it tells me that it is a test version and I have 7 days left to buy it. But I already own a full licence for it, so why does it get converted to a test version?
I have the full licence, no cloud based abo, before the update this was not an issue, now the Lightroom Classic also has the CC prefix.
Forcing a full licence version into an abo version with an update is unacceptable, and i don't see a way to revert it back.
Your catalog has been copied before it has been upgraded. So, your LR6 catalog is still there. The previews need to be regenerated, but that will happen automatically.
You can download LR 6.0 (Base installer) and update to 6.12 (it's a 2-step process) from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom

LR Classic CC (Lr 7) is for subscription only. If you don't like to change to a subscription I suggest to simply remove it.
Your LR 6 is still in place and working as before if you did not remove it intentionally.

The problem is that it removed the LR 6 from my system and I don't see a way to revert it back.
The app simply does not show LR6 and more.
When I started LR Classic it also told me that it updated my libraries, so I wonder if it is even possible to revert back.
The main problem is that the App told me it is an update for the version I own, but this simply is not true if it also changes the licence model. An update fixes bugs and maybe introduces new features, but should never ever change a licence model. So the app should not show it as an update but as a separate install. The way it is now there will be millions of people around the globe that are forced into a subscription version without even realizing it until it is too late.

If the LR 6 catalog is this there this is great.
It is just very strange that previously you could update it through the Adobe App, and now it changes your licence without warning or anything. The App should not call it an update. This will definitely be a problem for many many people around the globe.

The Lr 6 perpetual license will continue to work, but there is no upgrade to Lr 7 possible. If you want using the latest features, you need to change for the photographer's plan. Please be aware, that there are now several options which include different packages.
There will be an update to Lr 6.13 by the end of October including the latest cameras. Adobe announced the end of update cycles for the end of the year. From that time on, there will be no more support for new cameras, lenses and bug fixes.

You're really not getting the point raised by the original poster. Neither of us wanted or expected LR7. we just were trying to get the advertised updates to LR6.
The same thing happened to me today, November 2nd. I had LR6 standalone. It offered updates, in the same way as it always has done. Instead of updating LR 6, it deleted LR6 and installed Lr Classic and then asked for a subscription. Likewise I had to delete and reinstall and then find the update package relevant to LR6, which didn't change the subscription model. Adobe help line did not give the full picture. The update process for LR 6 is broken. Don't use it, but search Adobes site for the standalone upgrade.
So contrary to a previous post, the replacing of LR 6 by Classic bug, has not been fixed.
Here's the link to the 6.13 standalone update, which needs to be applied once the base LR 6 has been reinstalled.

The funny thing is, even if you go to Help => Update inside LR it opens the Adobe Cloud App and gives you the impression that you have to update using this. Update is a well defined expression and what it does is not an update but an upgrade. You get no warning whatsoever that you leave the scope your current installation is in.

File a bug report. Lr 6 should not upgrade to Lr Classic.

I have the same problem. Creative Cloud APP offers me a Lightroom CC to install, but also asks for a new subscription.

Lightroom CC is something different - it's the new cloud-based ecosystem.
Lightroom Classic CC is the successor of Lightroom CC 2015 - subscription licensed.
Lightroom 6 has no successor since there is no perpetual licensing anymore.

Then it should not offer to update LR 6 since it is not an update.

I did, or least what was available on the update. Nowhere does it mention this behaviour.
Do you work for Adobe, or are you just an apologist for Adobe?
If Adobe made a mistake with this update, just say so, explain clearly what the resolution is and we can all move on. Don't try and blame the user for Adobes bugs. That's what's now getting my goat on this thread.
I've had to spend 3 hours fixing this problem, including 45 minutes on the phone to Adobe, after which I still had to research the full solution myself, and I still can't be sure my catalogue is Ok. Luckily I have recent backups if needed. I can do without the victim blaming.
Jeez.

The upgrade to Lr Classic CC for Lr 6.x users was a bug, especially removing the old software by default. This caused a lot of problems for the users. It was Adobe's bug. Adobe did recognize this. And Adobe changed its software accordingly.
The solution for this problem has been enumerated multiple times in this forum. Unfortunately it implied to reinstall Lr 6. Links to the Lr 6 executables have been posted here. We were as helpful as we could have been.

Sorry but the software doesn't appear to have changed. I got caught out by this rubbish when it was first pushed out last year, wasted hours finding this discussion thread then uninstalling Lightroom Classic and reinstalling the Lightroom 6.0 (the software I actually paid for), and then today the CC app told me there were updates and - forgetting what happened last time - I just let them go through and BAM! It deleted my licensed Lightroom 6.0 AGAIN and gave me a trial version of Lightroom Classic which I do not want AGAIN. This is infuriating and reflects Adobe's utter contempt for its customers. If there were a viable alternative to Lightroom I would never have anything to do with Adobe again.

The upgrade bug has been solved in my understanding. And the last Lr6 update was on December 19th, 2017. There will be no further upgrades at any time.

I buy an Adobe license and after an update I find out that my license is now garbage.
Waste of money!
Adobe is not a serious company.
Yet another demonstration.
Of course Adobe did not convince me to go to a different plan!
Now I have to uninstall Lightroon Classic CC and re-install Lightroom 6.
I just lost time

Holy... same thing here. Got an upgrade offered like once in a while before and pushed the button. Now stuck with "7 day test". This sucks.
Do not see how to re-enter a serial number or go back to previous version.
Bug report form: looks rather like a web page designed to deflect bug reports: community. Means: "why not have customers support customers? Cheaper for Adobe...". Just Poor.
I like LR so much for years now, but enough is enough. Time to explore alternatives and to move on. Bye.

This upgrade offer is a bug in the upgrade software. Shouldn't happen as there is not yet an upgrade for Lr6 available.

Same thing.
I clicked "Aktualisieren" for LR 6 German (as done many times before) and after installing the "Aktualisierung" (=update), I got the notice, that I now have a 7-day Testversion of LR Classc CC.
Are they kidding???
I tried to phone the Adobe Support, but my call wasn't answered until the battery of my phone was empty....
Can't believe it. This are very questionary methods in dealing with customers.
