Lightroom Classic CC - Cant Create Folders On External Drive

Community Beginner ,
Nov 01, 2017 Nov 01, 2017

Hi

I have recently updated to Lightroom Classic CC running on iMac. I generally have my folders on my my iMac but also have some client folders that are kept on a LaCie external drive. I have just noticed that I can not create any folders on the external drive from within Lightroom. I can create folders by on the drive using Finder but not using Lightroom. I have not changed any permissions and this has been working for about the last 3 years. When I try and create a folder I get the error message "The folder /volumes/...path could not be created on disk".

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

have not changed any permissions and this has been working for about the last 3 years.

You need to check to make sure the permissions on the path of interest haven't accidentally changed.

Hi

Sorry but don't understand. I can read and write to the drive using finder, i.e. dropping files in, renaming existing folders. What I can't do is create folders on that drive using Lightroom. I could before the upgrade.

The issue is not writing to the drive, the issue is writing to that specific FOLDER where you want to create another folder.

So if you want to create a folder that is nested immediately under some parent folder, you need to check the permissions on that immediate parent folder to see if you have write permission.

Right Click or Control + Click on the folder in question (or the drive) and select "Get Info"

At the bottom the panel that opens will be displayed the permissions. You want Read And Write.

If you dont have them, click the padlock to allow changes. Change the permisions with the double arrow icon.

In my test I encountered no problem creating folders within sub-folders. However I did encounter this message when I Selected "Volume"

Here is the structure:

So, selecting Volume is not possible to create a folder via Lightroom (in my case its a server) but I am able to create folders withing any subfolder beginning with the "home" folder shown here.

Are you having issues with sub-folders too?

Incidentally, this is no different from the previous version.

If it's truly the same issue, then check out this link https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-give-full-disk-access...

If above doesn't help, then I strongly suggest that you start a new thread and provide as much information about your version Lightroom, your operating sytem and your computer hardware as possible.
