Lightroom Classic CC won't render photos in library view

New Here ,
Oct 19, 2017 Oct 19, 2017

After updating to Lightroom Classic CC, my photos won't show up in the interface of the library tab. But if I hover over where the photos should be, the preview image in the top left corner changes accordingly. So, my photos "are there" but they simply won't show up. I face the same problem in the import view. If I switch over to "Develop", I can see the single photo as well. Does anybody else faces a similar problem or has a solution?

Here is a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/pHLDy

I run Lightroom on a HP Probook 4540s with a AMD 7650M graphic card. I've already installed the newest driver available.

This problem has been resolved by a workaround provided by Adobe.

I followed these instructions:

Could you please try the following and report back if it solves the issue.

Try this workaround to see if it works for you. If not, delete the config.lua file afterwards.

  1. Choose Edit > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences dialog, go the Presets tab.
  3. In the Presets tab, click the Show Lightroom Presets Folder button. The root preset folder opens in the File Explorer.
  4. In the File Explorer, navigate into the Ligh

Was hoping this would have been a fix, but I don't have a lightroom folder when I follow the steps for the presets. UGGCapture.PNG

You’ve posted to an ancient thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same one you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better off posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information, including system information, a complete description of the problem, and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

If the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

Thank you!

I just looked at my system info and I don't see the entry you specified.  Did I put the file in the wrong folder - see my earlier comment on the folder structure.

my system info reports   Config.lua flags: None

I just retried  the fix with config.lua and still have the problem.  However system info now reports

Config.lua flags:

Tools.OldBackupImplementation = true

I had already deleted the config.lua before I ran system info previously.

Can someone from Adobe tell me if I have the correct contents in the config.lua file.

If so, what does my system info suggest.  I don't have an entry for AgView

Thank you so much!

Did config.lua fix the problem for anybody using Windows 7?  It has not fixed my problem.

When you click on "Show Lightroom Presets folder" another window opens: Windows Explorer.  "Lightroom" is HIGHLIGHTED in that new window.  It is NOT the main lightroom directory.  The config.lua file goes into that highlighted directory.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 10 with an AMD Radeon HD 6700m graphics processor.  I have the latest graphics drivers and latest version of Windows 10.  Since updating to Lightroom Classic CC, I have had the same problem with no photos displayed in either the grid view or the loupe view in the Library module.  Photos are displayed in the other modules but in none of the modules are the photos displayed in the film strip.  I have tried all of the suggested work arounds and none have fixed the problem.  All of this worked in the old Lightroom CC before I upgraded.  Is Adobe aware of this problem and are they working on it?

Config.lua-Flags:

AgView.disableDirect2D = true

Well maybe the "Show Lightroom Presets Folder" button doesn't point to the correct folder.  Like mentioned above, the "Lightroom" folder is highlighted on the right side of the the Windows Explorer window ("\Users\me\Pictures\Lightroom").  So I copied the config.lua file into that directory.  That directory, \Users\me\Pictures\Lightroom, now has the directories, "Backup", "Lightroom Catalog-2 Previews.lrdata", and "Lightroom Settings" and the files "config.lua", "Lightroom 4 Catalog", "Lightroom 5 Catalog", "Lightroom Catalog", "Lightroom Catalog-2", "Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat.lock", "Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat-shm", and "Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat-wal".  LensVisions says something about a highlighted directory but I'm not clear which directory he is talking about.  I did look at the System Info and I do not see the flag "AgView.disableDirect2D = true".  So what is the correct directory?

Ok - Found the answer.  The bit about finding the presets folder is a bit of a red herring.  The correct folder is \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Classic Lightroom CC.  I put the config.lua file in that directory and it works fine - not in any directory related to the directory indicated in the "Show Lightroom Presets Folder".

Does anyone have an answer as to the correct place to put the config file on a MAC.  I place it in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/

Under System Info accessed through Preferences, the config file shows up underneath the Plugins as follows:

Config.lua flags:

AgView.disableDirect2D = true

Still cannot import new photos after restarting LR and restarting computer.

I can't work - I'm in major fail mode here. I just paid an IT guy to come today and figure all of this out. I tried and worked for at least two days trying to handle it on my own. I was in the middle of a project last Thursday (geez, amost a week ago), my LR CC crashed 2x losing work I'd done to that point on this project, then it just quit working altogether. I spoke with an Adobe instructor who assured me that if I did the update to Classic, everything would work again. I did that then it said my permissions were wrong - I Googled how to do that and took all the steps; that didn't work; hence the IT guy. NOW he's long gone and I just opened the new LR CC (yes rounded corner LR) and low and behold there are about 30k missing images, and so I start looking for a way to sync LRClassic and CC - (shouldn't this have just happened??) I can't figure it out, no shock there - SO I went back to the new updated Classic open it up and there are no images showing up! There's no explanation mark indicating missing the links...I'm not a freak'n IT professional...I'm a photographer. I'm out of time, I have nothing. BTW, you state go to Edit-Preferences...where is this edit w/ preferences?? I've tried Edit in LR, in Finder - under the Apple...I'm on a MAC.

LensVisions, I don't have a clue who you are...I didn't mean to go off on you, it's just frustration at my limited ability and the mess this update, or something has left me in. Thanks for any additional information.

Myra, there is a preferences item in the edit menu in Lightroom Classic. You can turn off the gpu acceleration there in the performance tab. It’s not going to matter much since you are on a Mac though.

I have another problem displaying in the Library module.

The background behind the image does not refresh, so after seeing a few images all are mixed (See a preview below.).

The previous version of Lightroom correctly displayed everything.

All drivers are up to date.

In my opinion this is a bug in Lightroom, not in operating system or drivers.

None of the presented solutions do not help.

- Copy config.lua file with "AgView.disableDirect2D = true"

- Check/uncheck "use GPU"
