Lightroom Classic Keyword Typing Turns White

New Here ,
Jul 06, 2024 Jul 06, 2024

This is such an unusual issue, no one at Adobe has ever heard of it and cannot fix it. I have spoken to Adobe  Support reps at least 10 times and they have tried various things to attempt to fix it. It is happening on both my Mac Desktop and Mac Laptop

After selecting a group of photos to insert the keyword, the type in keyword box  turns white and I cannot see what is being typed in the box although it is still typing the word I tried to type. If I close LR and reopen the box is back to normal for a short time. It will happen immediately if I select a group of photos to add/delete a keyword. Needless to say, it is frustrating to not be able to see what I am typing in the keyword box. This has been happening for over 2 years so it has been occurring through Lightroom and Apple operating system updates
Adobe has deleted LR and re-installed it several times, has changed the graphics processor in Preferences/Performance from Auto to Custom, increased the Camera Raw Cache Settings to a maximum size of 100 GB, deleted/reinstalled preferences and fiddled around with various other things. I have also changed the Mac settings Appearance from dark to white. Nothing has worked. Most recently, Adobe said to ask Apple, who wants no part of this.

This is frustrating

Adobe told you they tried to delete preferences. I'd still try this again, according to these instructions: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

This is the only thing I can think of, and it helped a lot of people with various and rare issues. It seem to show on you computer only, otherwise there would be more reports of it.

Thanks but deleting preferences per your directions did not work.

Sorry it didn't help.

As I am working with Windows, and it works as expected on my end, maybe someone else can jump in ...

I stopped the auto hide on the right side of the Develop module (where the keyword box is located) and I have not had the problem now for a few days. I'm cautiously optimistic since I have tried other things that worked for a short period only to have the problem recur.

There's been one other report a few months from someone on LR 13.4 experiencing the problem for over two years:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/lightroom-classic-keyword-typing-turns-...

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/keyword-box-turns-white.50497/

They disabled auto-hiding of the right column of panels in Library, which seemed to help. But your screen recording indicates you haven't auto-hid the column.

I have this exact same problem and have been having it for at least a year.  Very frustrating.  Since then I have moved to a new computer and the problem followed so I doubt it is related to preferences, etc...  I have a hunch that maybe there is a corrupt keyword somewhere that has an invalid character in it and that is causing the system to exhibit this behavior.  I have not been able to resolve it though.  Any luck on your end?

Hi @jalessi!

Could you share more info, like what version of Lightroom Classic and operating system you're using? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? We'd love to help!

Thanks so much! 😊
