Lightroom Classic to Photoshop not working

Hi All,

I'm having what seems to be a very common issue with LRC and PS talking to each other. I want to open two images as layers in PS from LRC then save back to LRC from PS.

Stats:

PS version - 26.8.1

LRC version - 14.4

Laptop Info - MacBook Pro, 2019 - OS-Sequoia 15.5

Photos are stored on an external drive

Steps taken to resolve:

- Updated to newest version of PS and LRC - Restarted laptop

- Uninstalled both PS and LRC - Reinstalled PS first then LRC

- Reset Preferences in PS

- Checked external editing preset is set to PS in LRC

- Disconnected and reset External Hard drive

- Have tried older versions of LRC and PS together

I have had some success with dragging photos over into PS or using the toolbar instead of right clicking on the selected images as I normally do but this doesn't work everytime. When it does I then can't save from PS back to LRC as I get an error message saying there is a disc problem when saving.

I'm kind of at a loss now, is there anything I can do to solve this? Its beyond infuriating that this product is seemingly so broken whilst we're paying for it.

Thanks in advance

Could this be a LRC catalogue setting issue?

Just to give some more info, before I was working on PS 2020 which was working fine but I got the error message saying that PS couldn't connect to Creative Cloud Desktop, I then must have updated to the newer version which is when things broke.

Ok so the thing I'm having to do to get around this currently is drag the two photos I need to create layers of into PS, cancel the preview, then go back to LRC and 'open as layers in PS'

Hey, @matt_0733. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Does this happen with all images, or images with specific edits? Try using a set of images that are not edited, and check how it goes. There is an ongoing issue with images with SuperRes that don't work in the Edit-in-PS workflow: https://adobe.ly/40qZcJy

Try these steps to set up or recreate the link between Lightroom Classic & Photoshop 2025.

  • Reset Lightroom Classic following the second (manual) method from this article: https://adobe.ly/4fOPxm4
  • Uninstall Photoshop & Lightroom Classic and then install once again.
  • Before launching both of the apps, ensure Lightroom Classic & Photoshop have the required permissions on the macOS: https://adobe.ly/4amzwQg
  • Try launching Photoshop first, then Lightroom Classic & check if it behaves as expected.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
