Lightroom Import Errors, need help

During imports, certain files would show up to be imported but the system would say they were not imported. Instead, I would get a gray box and the only information recorded is the rating and tags. After investigation, I determined that the affected DNG files all contained Croatian / Slovakian characters in the file name. After renaming the files, the import worked. However, I still have the grayed boxes with no way to get rid of them.

I suspect this problem has developed during a product upgrade sometime in the past year or two. The reason I believe this is that I imported files with the same characters in the past with no problems. Lightroom started to re-import the those files as new files after apparently thinking the the characters represented a new file name.

1) Lightroom needs to get fixed to accept these characters.

2) I need to find out how to get rid of the gray boxes without reconstructing my whole library.

There seems to be good news. With recent updates, the problems seems to have resolved. I was getting import errors and repeated import requests of already imported files containing the č, ć, š, and ž characters. As of today, I am no longer getting the requests to re-import these files and the gray preview boxes have disappeared from my catalog. No intervention on my part.

For me the situation is resolved.
