Lightroom leaves behind multiple files when moving them into folders

I keep getting this error. "There was an error copying files to the detination you selected. The following files could not be copied"

My workflow is to go out and shoot multiple jobs. I then import all the files into lightroom, create subfolder for each shoot and then selelct and drag and drop the images to each subfolder for each job.
Thing is, every damn time it leaves behind images and says "could not copy " filesname(s) images". It's so random, if I try and move 200 images, it will pop up and say it can't copy 10 of them, next time it can't copy one of them, but it happens EVERY time. So the only way to do it is to repeat the whole action again.

This happened on my old PC, so I bought a brand new one and the same thing is happening. It is just so frustrating.

I've had a look through the discussions and no real definitive answer. Starting to think the only way to do it is close lightroom after importing and do everything in file explorer and then reopen and synchonise the main folder.

Yes, I see the same thing.  It's been an issue for a long time.  It's aggravating but eventually everything gets moved.  LrC has many such aggravations that don't seem to be on Adobe's to-do list.

Is the destination folder on a network drive (NAS)? Sometimes LR and NAS don't play nicely.

As DCLark064 says, problems with moving files have been reported sporadically for many years. Unfortunately, since no one has been able to provide a step-by-step recipe that allows Adobe to straightforwardly reproduce the issue, they aren't going to spend much time on it unless many, many people report similar symptoms. (I'm just the messenger -- don't shoot me.)

No, I'm just moving on files from the main folder to the subfolder in the same directory. I've had configurations in the past where the catalogue and the files were on seperate drives, but it's all on a 4TB SSD now. As I was replying to this I was moving 300 photos into a subfolder, I toggled back to lightroom and 4 random files had failed to copy. Like always.

Another question: are you continuously backing up this storage to elsewhere? If so, that might interfere.

Thanks Richard,

No, I'm not. For some jobs I import them to a backup location as well. But the error occurs regardless of whether I do this or not.
