Lightroom Mobile Removing Depth Effect

New Here ,
Sep 02, 2017 Sep 02, 2017

I am running iOS 11 on my iPhone 7 plus.  I just noticed that Lightroom mobile appears to be uploading my photos with depth effect without the depth effect.  With iOS 11 you now have the ability to remove the depth effect within the photos app.  I wonder if this is causing a problem with lightroom mobile.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Anybody have a solution?

Thanks a lot

Jake

Hi all,

As nikh26965827 mentioned in a response, currently LR Mobile is only seeing the original file from your Camera Roll on iOS 11. The team is aware of this issue and is currently exploring solutions. I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.

Thanks,

Melissa

I am having the same issue. What I am doing for this is, I import photos after I airdrop it to my iMac

Having the same problem. As Rosh suggests, airdropping the portriat mode image to another device merges both the standard and 'depth effect' images together. It seems LR Mobile only sees the original image in Camera Roll - not the combined image.

very annoying and hope Adobe fixes this soon.

Snapseed doesn't suffer from the same problem I've just found out 🙂

Are these photos JPG files or DNG/raw files?

Hello Melissa,

Has there been any update on this issue? Days shy of 6 months later and still no word on this - does this seem acceptable for Adobe to sit on for this length of time? The iPhone is the camera that shoots more photos than any other camera at this point. Sure, not all of those iPhone photos are from the 7+, 8+ or 10 models, but it's crazy to me that this hasn't been addressed (along with HEVC or HEIF support).

To be frank, I was an Apple Aperture user years ago and upon switching to Lightroom noticed how inefficient it was. Over the years Lightroom has gotten MUCH better, but now with the $10 per month cost I've been paying for a few years (which was positioned as a way to receive more updates and always have the latest software), there has been a complete lack of support for these areas on Apple's high-end phones. Yes, I have a professional camera as well and shoot for clients, but I'm to the point where I'm going to have to start looking for another photo management software that can actually utilize the capabilities of ALL of my cameras versus the easiest ones to manage for Adobe. This cannot be all that difficult and with the standard video issues that have been happening in Lightroom, I'm losing confidence quite quickly.

So, after waiting 6 months - (be straight with consumers) will Adobe support HEIF/HEVC...AND...with Adobe support the highest end iPhones bokeh/two-lens benefits of soft focus backgrounds?

Side note - I would have placed this response in another thread but all thread get routed back to this one (even though I'm not talking about Lightroom Mobile...I'm talking about the desktop Lightroom software).

Hi Darkroom12,

Thanks for reaching back out here. Unfortunately, the only thing I can report is that the team is still working and exploring possible paths to support HIEF/HEVC. Please know that they have read your response and they totally understand your and others' frustrations. They hear you. However, at this time, we can't report any possible future news.

I'm sorry for the least ideal response here but it's the one I have at the moment.

Thanks,

Melissa
