Lightroom Multiple Users

Hi,

I have a question regarding the usage of Lightroom.

In the past, I have used Lightroom just by myself and have created a large catalog. The files are placed on my NAS. Now, my wife starts a blog as well and she would like to have access to the pictures as well. The problem, she did not need all pictures. Just some. She will also take pictures of her own. And we struggle how to organize this in an intelligent way.

We would like to have access to all of the photos of the other without being dependent on the other. Is it possible to share parts of a catalog to another catalog with all the meta information?

The only way to make this work is to have the catalog on an external HD and then move the external HD from one computer to another.

Some people have put the catalog file on a web sharing service like DropBox, but this is very risky as if the catalog does not update on the web before someone opens it on one of your computers, then the catalog will be corrupted and unrecoverable.

Lightroom was NOT designed to be a multi-user system.

Thanks for the answer. We will not share the whole catalog. But is it possible to allow her to get access to just some pictures from my catalog? Assuming she has her own catalog. Is this possible? I found some options to export pictures as a new catalog. Is it possible to import this catalog into another catalog again?

Yes, but then you have two independent catalogs. Any work done on a specific photo is one catalog is not known or available in the other catalog.

Assuming you have a subscription, you could sync to LrMobile. You wife could then get access to 2048 pixel copies of the images, using only a web browser. Would that work in your situation?
