I have made some kind of error trying to move my photos to a new Hard Drive H.  As far as I know I followed the Lightroom Queen steps but obviously not carefiully enough.  The photos are on the drive ok and I can see them in Lightroom if  I search hard enough.  At the top of the screen ADD is highlighted which I press and nothing seems to happen.  At the bottom there is Done and  Import.  I have tried Done with no apparent effect but do not press  Import as I made that mistake last time.m  I would be very grateful for any help in resolving this.  Eain

There is no Importing when moving photos to a new hard drive. Importing is not a step. So it's not clear what instructions you were following. The proper instructions are https://www.lightroomqueen.com/move-photos-another-hard-drive-leaving-catalog/

Also, you are talking about Lightroom CLASSIC, right? You didn't say that.

Sorry  it is lightroom classic.  I know not to use import having made that mistake on my first attempt.  I thought I had followed the instructions  on the link you supplied but clearly I have made some mistake.  I attach a screenshot in the hope it may provide a clue as to what has gone wrong.  Eain

I cannot download and open file attachments. The better way is to use the "Insert Photos" icon.

Ok, despite your having been told not to Import, and despite the document saying you should avoid importing, you have the Import screen shown, and Importing is not a valid step in the process. Show us the Library Module.

I do not know why this screen keeps appearing.  I tried to use method 2 in the Lightroom queen instructions but obviously did something wrong.  I am beginning to suspect that onedrive is not helping mattersScreenshot 2024-08-22 172540.pngScreenshot 2024-08-23 083855.pngScreenshot 2024-08-23 084752.png

Your first two screen captures are NOT Lightroom Classic. If you are using Lightroom (not Classic) or other software, stop for now until you get this problem in Lightroom Classic solved.

Saying you tried to follow the instructions is not sufficient. Tell us what step in the process you have gotten to when the Import screen appears. Be specific. Be detailed.

I had no idea I had two versions of lightroom.  Thank you for pointing that out.  I will use classic now exclusively.

My photos have been copied to H using explorer.  I renamed E to P and then as it didnt seem to make much difference reverted to E which came out as E(E)  Now when I start up Lightroom Classic I get screen shot B.   I click add folder and go to H.  I click Pictures and now the screenshot C  Done/Import/  Screen opens which seems to be a dead end  Thank you very much for persisting  with this despite my obvious incompetence.screenshot B.pngScreenshot C.png

I brought up your screenshot and annotated it a bit:

1.png

you state:

I have tried Done with no apparent effect

Well, yes, that would accomplish nothing, in effect that means cancel.

you also state:

but do not press Import as I made that mistake last time

You may want to expand upon that statement. What went wrong?

HOWEVER, and I probably should have started with this one, You state:

trying to move my photos to a new Hard Drive H.

So, these photos already exist in your catalog, and you want to move them to a different hard drive, or a different folder?

If so, then why are you attempting an Import?

 Wrong, just wrong.

The normal way to move photos that are in a catalog, is to bring up the Library Module, and in the Folders Panel, move them.

some links:

P.S. it looks like you are using OneDrive. In that screenshot it looks like your images are on OneDrive. BAD, very Bad. What about your catalog? Where is it? In LrC, clcick on Help, then System Info, look at the sections about the Library path, what is shown? Is it something like:

Library Path: C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Pictures\Lightroom\Lightroom.lrcat

Thank you for your help so far. I did try to move the files using method 2 as outlined by the lightroom queen instruction but obviously did domething wrong.  I am beginning to suspect onedrive may have helped to mess it up.  I tried finding the library path as you suggested but the help button did not lead me to it.  I including some screenshots in the hope they may provide clues as to what I have done wrong  EainScreenshot 2024-08-22 172540.pngScreenshot 2024-08-23 083304.pngScreenshot 2024-08-23 083758.png
