Has anyone been having a problem switching between photos in the library on Lightroom?

I used this program on  a windows 10 system. Just updated the app about a month ago, it is currently up to date. Just looking through photos on my library is nearly impossible. I takes 20 seconds or longer to go to the next photo, and sometimes a black screen appears before it will swap. This is causing me to have a lot of issues. Can't edit, can't even look at the photos. HELP PLEASE!!

Hi

System requirements for Lr classic are below

Lightroom Classic CC system requirements

Sometimes permissions to the Adobe folders are also the cause of slow performance.

Try Lightroom in hidden admin account

To enable the Windows 10 administrator account do the following:

  1. Tap on the Windows-key. This should open the start menu or bring you to the Start Screen interface depending on how Windows 10 is configured on the system.
  2. Type cmd and wait for the results to be displayed.

Are you 'looking through' photos from the Catalog, from a Folder or from a Collection?

How many photos in the batch you are using and are they .jpg, .dng, or some camera format?

Give me a bit to go on here and I'll see if I can duplicate your issue.

Take your time. I'm actually off of my computer for the night, but to answer your question, I generally import my photos into a subfolder in my library, and that's what I'm in when I start sifting through photos, before I even begin to edit. That's the place I'm noticing the issue. I believe they are jpg, but I'll double check in the morning. Also, as far as quantity, its usually anywhere from 200 to over 1000.

I just imported 194 photos of differing file formats and file sizes from a folder on my desktop.

Previews set to 1:1

Viewing them in Loupe View in the Library Module I selected the first on on the left in the film strip and

begun pressing the right arrow key.

Images appeared as fast as I could press the key. I held down the right arrow key and the images just flew by.

That's amazing, I don't know why mine isn't working properly. To be honest, as long as I've had Lightroom it's never ran or performed that well. I usually runs a little slow but this is just extreme. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Oh wow that's fast. Yeah mine has never worked like that before. I'm starting to wonder if it might be a compatibility issue with Windows 10 maybe?

I started to follow those steps to make sure everything is set up right, but right off the bat I notice the system requirements on the link are for the Lightroom CC version 6, I currently have 7.1 running on my surface. Would that be affecting this as well? I'm guessing it might have different requirements.

Dana,

There are many other users experiencing the same slow performance with LR Classic CC.  On the forum home page, use the search box and search for "slowly."  You'll see dozens of posts relating to your issue, including some with suggestions to improve things.  While some users experience terrible LR performance, others don't.  Everyone is using the same application--on PC or Mac--so the software can't be the only thing causing the problems.

So far, no one, including Adobe, has done anything close to a scientific study to compare the hardware and software configurations of systems with these issues versus systems without them.

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely look into the other posts. I'm really hoping to find some way to improve the speed.

  3. Right-click on the Command Prompt result (cmd.exe)  and select “run as administrator” from the context menu. Alternatively, hold down the Shift-key and the Ctrl-key before you start cmd.exe.
  4. Run the command net user to display a list of all user accounts on the system.
  5. To activate the inactive administrator account, run the command net user administrator /active:yes
  6. If you want to enable the guest account as well run the command net user guest /active:yes

The administrator account is active now which means that you can sign in to the system using it. It is not password protected by default which means that anyone with access to the system can use it to sign in to it.

Restart your system with admin account in the left.

Check Lightroom there

If its working fine there it means that this is permissions issue.

Regards

Priyanka
