Lightroom: + Short Key doesn't work anymore

Community Beginner ,
Jan 24, 2018 Jan 24, 2018

Dear Community & Support!

It's been a couple of weeks, that I've had the weirdest problem with Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and I can't find any answers on the web. Nobody seems to have this issue   This is making me crazy.

The short key "+" to increase sliders simply doesn't work anymore (WIN 10 and Mac High Sierra). While all the other keys do work. "-" for example to decrease. I've even changed languages to see if there's something wrong with the keyboard; just to find out, that the corresponding key (German: #) doesn't work either.

Also the same problem exists on the Mac, it makes me think that the key was globally deactivated / changed - which doesn't make sense, as you can't do that, right? Now, I've also checked Photoshop. There the key (increase brush size) works just fine. Isn't this strange?

This is really ruining my workflow and apart from that great and long lasting LR experience. Any idea what I could do?

The only known workaround is to roll back to LR 7.0.1.

Wouldn't switching the language to English be a workaround as well? (I realize this might be unpleasant or unusable for some, but it is a workaround)

I just reinstalled LR and the problem still exists

Now it's getting even weirder. The same shortkey is used in the library to increase the size of the thumbnails. And here it does work. Back in the development module (where it's much more important) it doesn't though.

What happens if you first click on the word "exposure" (or "contrast" or any other slider name) and then press + ???

Nothing happens at all. It does show the keys as usual - on whatever slider you click. However + won’t work while - does.

Yeah I did a reset.

"To reset your preferences in Windows, restart Lightroom from the pinned application icon in the Start Screen, and immediately press the Shift + Alt keys. In the resulting Reset Preferences dialog box, indicate you want to reset your preferences."

Even reinstalled the program. Isn't it strange that the problem also exists on my MacBook?

Yes. That's the strangest part of your problem. It works fine for me on Windows. What happens if you try Shift +?

Are you running LR in a language other than English, e.g. French or Italian? LR 7.1 broke the slider-increase shortcut in a number of languages: Lightroom: Keyboard shortcut for incrementing slider values doesn't work (German, Italian, Japanese,... Please add your constructive opinion to that bug report and click Me Too in the upper-right corner. That will make it a little more likely Adobe will prioritize a fix, and you'll be notified when the bug's status changes.

The only known workaround is to roll back to LR 7.0.1.

Hi John and DJ!

Now this is some interesting information. Thanks.

I'm actually running LR in German - I just didn't want to make it all more confusing. And as I've changed the keyboard to English and it didn't work either, I thought the language wouldn't even affect the keys.

However, now I've changed the language setting from German to English in the preferences menu in LR directly. Restarted. And it works just fine It's even more convenient to go this way because the buttons are better placed on a full keyboard

So happy. Thank you DJ & John! You've really made my day!

Glad you got a workable solution.

I thought the language wouldn't even affect the keys.

LR's keyboard shortcuts depend on the language for which LR is configured in Preferences.  Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't appear to do any quality assurance testing for non-English shortcuts, and they break them some every few releases.

Be sure to add your opinion and me-too vote to the bug report above -- that will make it more likely Adobe will prioritize the fix.  LR 7.2 might be expected early February.

Hi Maurice Etoile,

The issue for keyboard shortcuts not working correctly for German keyboard has been fixed in the latest update of Lightroom Classic CC 7.2.

I would request you to please make sure that you have Lightroom 7.2 installed  and let us know if the latest update fixed the issue or does the issue persist.
