Hello,
Why is Lightroom suddenly automatically creating virtual copies of my photographs when I enable profile correction?
I just want to develop my images like I always have. Seems like I am on some kind of soft proofing setting that I never asked for. I don't know how to soft proof and I'm not asking to learn here. I just dont want virtual copies of all my images but I do want to enable profile correction as I start to develop my raw files in Lightroom.

You have accidentlally turned on soft-proofing. This is a setting you click on in the Develop panel:
If it is enabled, whenever you make any change to the develop settings, a virtual copy gets created. Simply turn it off by clicking the checkbox to uncheck it or by hitting the S key. If you don't see the setting in Develop you can also find the setting in the View menu, or if the whole toolbar is missing, hit the T key whihc toggles the little toolbar below the image.
Soft proofing has nothing to do with the camera profiles in Lightroom by the way.
