Lightroom using too much RAM

Explorer ,
Dec 15, 2023 Dec 15, 2023

Today after long editing session I noticed that my PC slowed down noticable. I looked up into task manager and saw that Lightroom uses 13GB of RAM + 12GB usage from Photoshop. I thought it isn't that much, because I have 64GB of RAM, but it's usage was at 98%. After I closed Photoshop RAM usage dropped by 15GB and after closing Lightroom usage dropped by 33GB! That's huge amount of RAM usage and it was 20GB more than task manager was showing next to Lightroom process. Is this a bug?

Same problem here on a MacBook Pro with 64GB running LRC 14.0.1. Left LR open overnight and got the 'Out of Memory' warning to close down apps. However, by this point LR was completely unresponsive (spinning beach ball). Clean My Mac claimed LR was using 255GB of ram!?

I'll repost my workaround, which still works fine for me. I make sure I shut down LRC in library mode so that it starts up in library mode. That's all. If I shut down in Develop mode, it starts up in Develop mode and all my memory is quickly consumed even if I switch quickly to Library mode. Imac Pro (Intel), Sequoia, 32 GB, LRC 14.0.1.

Same issue here: Windows 11 with 32GB RAM, i7-14700KF, and RTX 4070 Super. Lightroom consumes all available RAM, exceeding 20GB, and becomes unusable and slow. Initially, it runs smoothly but quickly deteriorates in performance.

It seems Lightroom has serious RAM management problems.

With the last version 14.1.1 the issue was gone. I don't know if they solved it with the new release or if it's just because of the installation.

Yep. STILL an issue. I have been having this issue for over a year now... even after adding an additional 32gb of RAM as well. Like you said, iPhone app works perfectly fine and flawless and doesn't lag at all.

Desktop lags SO BAD that I ACTUALLY prefer to edit my photos on my phone now... I can't do masking at all on the PC or it will freeze my PC and crash it...
