Hello,

I've bought a new camera - Nikon D7200 - and now Lightroom cannot read my NEF file. Earlier a have had D80 and I've imported my photos as RAW with no problem. Now when I want to send my pictures from camera the message comes out: "the file is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom". I have updated DNG Converter and Camera Raw to 11.3 and still nothing. I have Lightroom 5 and it should be compatible with my camera and NEF files, especially I have used it before to import pictures with this format. Please help me.

You would have to use the DNG Converter to convert the NEF to DNG, and then import the DNG into Lightroom.

Adobe 101, Cameras supported by particular versions

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

For a Nikon D7200 you need

ACR v9

Lightroom v1.0

Lightroom Classic (subscription) v2015.12

Lightroom Perpetual v6.0

Also, please note that it does not matter to Lightroom what version of ACR you have, as that plug-in is for Photoshop, not Lightroom, Lightroom’s Camera RAW converter code is internal within LR.

And the Adobe DNG converter version will, I think, correspond to the ACR version.

So your issue is Lightroom version 5. You would need v6 (no longer being sold) or you need to go for the subscription package.

Workaround is to use the Adobe DNG converter you have, convert the NEF to DNG, and import the DNG files.

By the way, most of us on this Forum, like my-shelf, are just fellow users, not Adobe employees, techs, or representatives.

And rarely does an Adobe tech read or respond in this forum (used to say never)

That said, just a heads up. Adobe has no plans to ever provide additional camera support to any of the older versions of Lightroom. Adobe has absolutely ended support for the perpetual license versions.  Adobe no longer cares one iota for such version related issues, they have moved on and are not looking back. Not going to happen.

If you want to vent, then the webpage to do so, a webpage Adobe does monitor is:
