Lightroom wont import, shows progress bar but does nothing

Lightroom 2015.9, camera raw 9.9, windows 10, Nikon D610 raw.  Lightroom lets me select my photos and destination, and when I click on "import" (copy as DNG) I get the overall progress bar and "importing photos" in the center but nothing happens.  I transferred the files from the sd card to the computer, same thing.  I have uninstalled & reinstalled same thing.  Any Ideas?

Try changing the destination to where you import. Make sure it is a location that is writeable to your logon user.

Perhaps you have a bad card reader or bad USB cable. Try using different transfer hardware.

That seems to solve it!  Any idea why?

No but I've seen this help a few times now with similar issues and strangely enough often switching it back to where you were importing before actually still working. Something wrong with Lightroom's preferences perhaps that gets reset by changing the import destination.

This behavior is usually caused by permissions problems on the destination drive. Perhaps Lightroom is reading the drive permissions incorrectly, and choosing a different destination resolves the permission problem.

I have solved this problem by using the OS to reset the permissions to Read & Write for a specific folder or drive.
