Lightroom6 plug-in for iPhoto import running VERY slow

Hi, I am using the lightroom6 plug-in to transfer all 130 Gb of my iPhoto 'master' pictures to lr. it is taking a really really long time and I'm wondering if thats typical.  Its still running and took 30 hrs to import 15GB (4000) images so far. at this rate it will take 8 days to complete?! my system is a 2012 imac with aftermarket internal 1T SSD drive, which is both source and destination, and latest versions of everything OSX, LR6, and iphoto. This system is generally pretty snappy.  right now it doesnt sound like it is working hard or running hot, just doing a very leisurely one picture every 20-30 seconds?! Any thoughts? What would happen if it got interrupted, would I have to start from scratch? Thanks!

That sounds about right to me. I have not done it myself, but I helped a friend and he had similar results, taking days for the import. His did stop due to a power failure. It picked up from the place it left off.
