Have seen new behaviour for 12.0.1 LRC on Monterery in the past few weeks.

I'll be importing images and I might go and flag or rate one and then LRC crashes.

Haven't seen this form of crash before.

Have you ever been able to Import?

In System Settings, >Security & Privacy, >Full Disk Access, do you see Lightroom listed? If not, do add it and try again.
See: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-give-full-disk-access...

If that isn't the issue, try resetting your Lightroom preferences:

Quit Lightroom Classic.
macOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".
