LRC 13.3 Problems With Masks!

I am beyond frustrated right now! The masking tools are not all working after recent upgrade to 13.3

Find sky works fine, can't find people, select background looks like it trys to create mask and then it disappears, same with select subject. PLease help! Or tell me how to downgrade!

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

I also updated my graphics driver as suggested and no help. I am so frustrated right now! Everything was working just fine before this latest update.

That driver is very old, from 2018, and you should update it by going directly to the manufacturer's web site rather than rely on Windows Update:

If you've updated since you posted the System Info, please post the updated System Info so we can verify.

That driver is six years old. In general, you can't rely on Windows Update or computer manufacturer's crapware utilities to update graphics drivers -- you have to go directly to the graphics-processor manufacturer's web site:

Thanks John, both  the Intel and AMD sites will not install directly because Dell has customised (or "embedded") them in some manner (as you can tell I don't know much about GPU matters...   Why do I have 2 GPUs?) 

Anyway, it seems I cannot update them further.  Is my only option to downgrade lightroom? (or keep saving the pennies for a new laptop)

The problem is that Dell, ACER, and other manufacturers don't update their customized drivers. This didn't matter six years ago, when apps use of the GPU was pretty stable and boring. But with the new AI apps are using, they need the latest less-buggy drivers.

 

People have reported here that installing the non-customized driver from AMD generally works well, though you might lose the customized functionality, which is typically minor.  You could try calling Dell to find out which features you'd lose by updating to the latest AMD driver, but good luck navigating Dell support to get an authoritative answer.

 

Normally, when the AMD update utility fails, you can go to their web site and manually download the correct driver. However, AMD.com doesn't list the Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics, so you'd have to contact AMD support to find out which driver to manually download.

With a sense that I was unlikely to get a result, I emailed AMD support and they managed to send me a link to a newer driver on the Dell site, that Dell did not seem to know about?!?

I understand that you are using an Dell XPS 15 laptop and looking for graphics drivers for RX Vega M GL.
AMD recommends OEM-provided drivers which are customized and validated for their system-specific features and optimizations. please refer to link below.

This has resolved my lightroom 13.4 issues and masking is now working normally, very happy again 🙂

You probably have a faster but power-hungry GPU (the Vega) and slower but battery-saving integrated GPU that's on the chip with the CPU.
