LrC Keeps trying to import files

New Here ,
Jul 31, 2025 Jul 31, 2025

Hey everyone, My LrC keeps trying to import files every few seconds. This just started yesterday but it's drving me crazy. The import window opens and I have to hit "done" or "close" and it's happening every 20 - 30 seconds... Like it's caught in some sort of loop. I can't get any editing done with this happening and I don't know how to make it stop!

Hey, @elsie_1972. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Do you have any mobile devices or any other storage devices connected to your machine while Lightroom Classic is running?

Try unplugging any media devices that have any storage capacity.

You can check the Windows Device Manager > Action > Scan for Hardware changes to check connected devices.

Let me know how it goes.

Uncheck the option Preferences > Show Import Dialog When A Memory Card Is Detected.  (That option is misnamed -- it really means "Show Import Dialog When Any Storage Device Is Detected".)

If the problem goes away, that indicates the issue is that Windows is telling LR every 30 seconds there's a new device connected. Most likely this is due to a loose cable or port connector, but it could be a failing device or (rarely) a utility running background that creates a new virtual drive every 30 seconds.

If disabling the Show import dialog option in preferences doesn't help, make sure that AutoPlay is turned off in Windows settings.
