Mask "object" not working Lightroom 13.1

Lightroom masking does not recognize "object" when I paint over the part I want to change.

I have Lightroom 13.1, Windows 11.

 

I am a computer "dummy" and if I need to update something, I need specific guidance!

For Windows 11, some links on how to create a video capture, how to record your screen are as follows (could be mre):

 

 

Their are also additional apps for this. Such as MS Screen Recorder, and one I like PicPick (very nice for taking screenshots and annotating them, and has a screen record function)

When I paint for an object, the object is not available for changes. It goes back to the whole photo.

I have used this feature before, successfully.

Now it won't work.

"DirectX: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (31.0.101.4502)"

 

This graphics driver is 8 months old. LR is very sensitive to bugs in graphics drivers (especially the AI commands).  As a next troubleshooting step, update your graphics driver by going directly to the Intel web site:

In tried to update my Intel driver (HP ENVY laptop (OEM)) both on the Intel website and on de HP website, but it says I have the latest driver installed. Object masking doesn't work in LRc and LR but is does work in the web version.

LR's AI commands are very sensitive to bugs in graphics drivers, of which there are many (which is why GPU manufacturers release new versions frequently).  There are many reports here of updating drivers that are "only" a few months old fixing LR problems.

 

Intel's product naming is an inconsistent mess, so I can't be sure, but I think the first search result here links to the most recent driver for your processor:

which was released 1/23/2025.

 

Beware that laptop manufacturers like HP often don't update their bundled graphics drivers frequently, if at all, and sometimes those drivers have been "customized" with things like power-management features.

 

So before trying the most recent Intel driver, make sure to download the most recent HP driver and have it ready to re-install if the Intel driver screws things up.


Alternatively, you could call HP support to try to get the most recent driver (good look with that).

In tried to update the Intel driver, but they warned that in this case (HP
OEM) I should update on their (HP) website. Unfortunately, there is no new
or updated version of the driver! Also trying the Windows update didn't
work: all drivers are the latest version.

But now I think about it, there was a HP *firmware update* for my HP
laptop not so long ago (maybe 1 or 2 weeks ago) Is it possible that that is
the cause? Would it be possible to reverse such a firmware update, or is
that too risky?
Please let me know what in that case I should do. Meanwhile, I will work on
your above email.

That's the usual situation -- HP hasn't updated their version of the driver. Does the Intel driver give you the option of installing it anyway? If/when you're ready to try the Intel driver anyway, make sure you have downloaded the most recent HP driver just in case you want to roll back.

 

"Also trying the Windows update didn't work: all drivers are the latest version."

 

Windows update is notorious for not showing the most recent drivers.
