When selecting background or subject under the masking tool I get an error "something went wrong, there was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed"  This only started last night.  I have searched down through conversations but haven't found anything to correct it.  I tried to upate my drivers however it says you have the latest drivers installed.  Can someone please help me with this error.  Here are my system info

Hey @lockca. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Your machine has an integrated AMD GPU with drivers (31.0.12044.3) from October 2022, which might not be enough for Lightroom's masks to work.

Give this a try on Windows; the GPU info & Logs location is %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw. A shortcut to get to this folder on Windows is:

  • Press the Windows + R
  • Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw

    SameerK_0-1680720867932.png

  • Rename the GPU & Logs folder in this directory by adding .old at the end. (GPU.old & Logs.old)
  • Restart Lightroom Classic, which should capture the updated driver & hardware capabilities.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
Sameer K

It worked for a bit but not working again now.  I can only edit one picture then have to go change the files to .old.  I am looking for the right driver to update now but can't seem to find that either.  I only bought this computer in January as my old one was causing issues but it is no different with the new one.

"I am looking for the right driver to update now but can't seem to find that either."

In the Windows search box, type "system information" to run the System Information App. The System Manufacturer should be AMD; write down the System Model:

johnrellis_0-1682376448065.png

Go to AMD.com > Downloads & Support > Drivers.

johnrellis_1-1682376574360.png

Click on Search All Products and enter the model, selecting the matching model, and then click Submit:

I updated the driver by the instructions above, but still the same thing.  I can edit one, maybe two photos and I get the error something went wrong.  Is there anything else it could be or would you have any other suggestions that may fix.  Also, thank you so much for all the help so far with this issue

"Dedicated GPU memory used by Lightroom: 3737.2MB / 495.5MB (754%)
DirectX: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (31.0.12044.3)"

LR's AI commands requires a minimum of 2 GB of graphics memory (VRAM).  It's not clear whether the integrated graphics on your AMD processor qualify -- the graphics processor (GPU) has access to 4 GB, of which most is system memory shared with the CPU and only 512 MB is dedicated to the GPU.

You could verify it's the graphics processor or its driver by booting Windows into safe mode,

which will disable the GPU while in safe mode.  LR's AI masking runs just fine (though more slowly) without a GPU.  So if the problem doesn't occur, you know for sure it's the GPU. If you're on a desktop, you could consider adding a graphics card.  But if you're on a laptop, it's probably not economically worthwhile getting an external GPU (eGPU).

LR, and your laptop overall, will probably run much too slowly in safe mode to make it practical to do that all the time.

Just getting around to running my computer in safe mode and Lightroom masking works. So it is the GPU.   Very disappointing seen I just purchased an all in one computer in January.  Not sure what I can do now for upgrading it or how much an external one would be.
