I am migrating my LRC to a new computer and have the following question:
On my old computer, user presets were located under "... Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Settings/Export Presets/User Presets." The Lightroom folder was also where my lrcat data was stored.
On my new computer, most if not all info, settings, and data is stored under " ... /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Lightroom Settings/Export Presets/User Presets."
Is this a better file location for this data?
What is the best location for the catalog?

Hi there,
Thank you for reaching us out on Adobe Community. The new location is basically a default location for presets and for other important connected things for Lightroom Classic. It is a safe location to keep your presets. Probably, you must be saving your presets with catalog on your old machine and that's why it was there in the picture's folder. For more, check out the presets faq: https://adobe.ly/4e2MQvD
Let us know if you have any follow-up questions.
Thanks,
Mohit

I don't believe that the list of presets and preset locations is exactly the same between the old computer and the new.
Perhaps it's best to start with a clean slate anyway. I was just wondering whether the default "roaming" locations was better than defining a new specific location.

Store with Catalog is specific per Catalog, whereas storing centrally in the user's files (the 'roaming' area of that computer account's profile) is specific per computer user. account
So I guess it depends on which one there might ever be more than one of - where you still wanted to automatically see the same set of presets. Also, might this be happening within a second computer as well.
Either way, including the presets location into backups would be a good idea. Personally, I think it makes sense to use the central default location (by not storing with Catalog) such that not only the user customised Lightroom Classic resources but also Adobe Camera Raw resources held alongside (which LrC shares the use of with ACR) can be managed together. That is a whole range of other stuff besides e.g. the user Develop presets.

Thank you! That makes perfect sense.
