Moving between images grows to 5-6 seconds after several hours of use

I am my wits end with this problem so much so i spent £2000 on buying a full new PC thinking it was my specs only find the issue still remains.

 

When i start LR - its fine, snappy! and after 40-50 minutes it slows down to taking 3-4 seconds to switch between images - after 2-3 hours it can take as long as 5-6 seconds. But why!!

My LR version is 12.3

PC Specs are

Intel i9-13900KF
Nvidia 3090 GPU
1TB NVME SSD Storage where i do my editing
Watercooled
64GB RAM

its only LR that bogs down - nothing else! i saw a thread here but its from 2017 and surely they will of fixed the issue by then - but still that resolution doesnt work now a days

What is the solution - i have over 20 cores of CPU and a machine that just isnt being utilised to its full potential

Nvidia graphics card drivers are up todate - i have tried everything i can think of

 

Windows 11 aswell by the way

to add to this - the only way to get it fast again is to reboot...... but i cant keep rebooting every 30-40 minutes just to keep editing i shouldnt need to

Only in develop mode - library mode is never slow , and no other symptoms - its not like the PC is struggling doing any other task

This says you've got driver version 535.50 installed, which is very curious, since it isn't listed in recent drivers at Nvidia.com (see below).  Did you install it from a third-party site?  I suggest installing the latest Studio driver (531.61) for that card from Nvidia.com.

Thanks for spotting this - i think nvidia released a new driver today so i had a slightly different version when i went to upgrade but still the same

I removed all my drivers/nvidia and started from scratch to the latest studio version -

after 2-3 hours of editing it was taking 7 seconds to change an image vs 2-3 seconds on first boot.

I wonder if preview generation is causing the slowth.  Normally, LR is pretty good about generating LR previews in background unobtrusively, but maybe not in your case. You could try this experiment:

 

1. Set Catalog Settings > File Handling > Standard Preview Size to something smaller than your display size, e.g. 1440 pixels,  with Preview Quality: Medium.

 

2. Uncheck the option Settings > General > Replace Embedded Previews With Standard Previews During Idle Time.

 

3. Uncheck the option Preferences > Performance > Generate Previews In Parallel.

 

Now as you edit in Develop, LR shouldn't try to generate Library previews in background while you edit. They'll only get generated on demand when you scroll the grid to new positions or open images in Loupe view.  And the previews could be smaller than what you've previously been using.

 

If this improves the situation, then you can experiment those three options invididually.

2/3 are already sat as you mentioned 😞

Also preview cache is already set to 50gb also 

The annoying thing is i see nothing in task manager that indicates any hang ups or anything that is steaing memory or CPU so its hard to find the cause of this
