I presume you are referring to a Windows-8 update?  (Lightroom at v6.0)

It is possible that the Previews cache has been corrupted by the update.

You could try-

Resetting the Previews cache: Close Lr, Rename the Catalog Previews.LRDATA folder, re-open Lr.  The previews will slowly re-build.

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-says-preview-cache-corrupted-fix/

Reset your Preferences file. https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

And also Update your Lightroom to Version 6.14  (The last of the Perpetual versions)   Download Photoshop Lightroom

will i loose my presets by doing this?

No. Your presets are not changed, or lost, by any of the suggestions in my post above.

But it always good advice to have a backup of the system files that Lightroom uses.

In the Preferences dialog, 'Presets' tab, you will find the link to show your Presets folders, which is usually like {C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom} in Windows OS. This is where you will find many folders with Presets for all the functions of Lightroom (Develop, Local Adjustment -Brush, Import, Export, etc )

It is an advantage to understand more about the files and folders essential for LIghtroom-
