New Catalog can't be opened for first time as it is grayed out

I have just created an new catalog. I can't get going with it as it is 'masked' with a grey-brown layer. This happened once before some years ago and I contacted Adobe Support and there was a very simple fix, which I now can't remember. Can anyone help?
