OK, over the years and over numerous updates etc I have managed to accumulate quite a few catalogs, stored in different places for one reason or another.

Do I need to keep these or do I just need to keep the latest? What happens if I delete them?

I would say no, unless you think you will ever go back to an older version. Personally I only keep the current as some editing done with current features would not be compatible with older versions of LR.

The catalog for the current version will be fine. As soon as you are sure that the new Lr version is working as intended, you can get rid of the old catalog after having backed up the new one. As soon as you have done a bunch of good work with the new software version, you can't allow yourself going back without loosing your current work.
