Ominous system message

Enthusiast ,
May 25, 2024 May 25, 2024

Hi guys,

This LRC message seems quite ominous and ... I have no clue what it's about or means.

Any ideas? Please see attached

Thanks a lot,

Raphael

Have you rebooted the Mac? That can sort out many odd problems. Maybe not this one, but it's easy to try.

Ensure LR is granted Full Disk Access (not Files And Folders) permission:

Programs can write to subfolders in /Users but not to /Users itself. If you've set up /Users to receive syncing photos and videos, you'll need to change that.

Granting LrC Full Disk Access is also important for other LrC functions.

Full Disk access was not enough; so can you kindly tell me what's next ... step-by-step, please 🙂

Thank you.

Like @CumberLinda said, programs will never be able to write into /Users. That is a system locked folder. You must have set up the sync location wrong in the Lightroom Classic Sync preferences. Just go into Preferences->Lightroom Sync and set it to a location where your user has write access which is usually somewhere in your own home folder like in the pictures folder there.

The error message was:

johnrellis_1-1716751307895.png

If you click Show In Finder, which folder is opened in Finder?

Normally, I think that error message should show a folder path that matches what's in Preferences > Lightroom Sync:

johnrellis_0-1716754432062.png

But your screenshots show /Users in the message but /Users/raphael/Pictures in Preferences, suggesting that LR is confused and has recorded inconsistent settings.

Try changing the location for synced images to some completely different folder, e.g. /Users/raphael/TempSync. Then restart LR. Do you now get that error?

That is strange. Another permissions issue going on then or perhaps the hard disk is very full? If so you would be getting other scary error messages though. If I were you I would disable the full disk access (since the LRC 13.3 release Adobe does no longer recommend you use full disk access) and enable all the options in the Files & Folders section of Privacy & Security. Quit LIghtroom and restart it and give it all the permissions it asks for.

"since the LRC 13.3 release Adobe does no longer recommend you use full disk access"

Do you have a reference for that? Adobe's Quick Tips: How to give Full Disk Access to Lightroom Classic on macOS is still in Featured and should be updated.

>Do you have a reference for that?

Rikk sent a file with sync troubleshooting advice for 13.3 that mentions this to a few forum people. It doesn't hurt to do it but they mention that they no longer recommend full disk access for sync issues.

Rebooting did it. Now I'm not sure which part of the remedy actually worked.

But it worked!

Thanks so much to all!
