Definitely get the drivers up to date.
I don't believe there's a problem with Radeon HD cards, and FWIW, I'm using a XFX AMD Radeon R9 280 with 3Gb. You're going to need a recent generation card with at least 2Gb of memory such as the AMD R9 2xx series or nvidia’s Geforce 700 or 900.

I've got the same problem. Disappointed. My GPU is getting a little long in the tooth, but it meets the specs and works perfectly in Photoshop CC2014 (all settings working with advanced settings active), which I would have expected to be more taxing of the GPU then LR. I'm running the latest stable driver provided by AMD (in fact I updated it only last week); the only more current driver is a beta.

Nope, not working here either.
Mine's an AMD GPU as well - Radeon HD 7200 series that works perfectly well with Capture One and DxO Optics Pro.
That said - I thought my driver was up to date, but no. So let's see what happens when I update...

🙂 Those drivers get updated so often that it's hard to keep up.
Please let us know how you get on Keith. Starting to wonder if there's an issue with Radeon HD cards...

Just out of interest Keith, what driver version did you update to? Was it 14.12 (current), or 15.4 (beta)?

Hi Molly, sorry I'm only get back now.
Here you go (this being an R7 200 series card with 2 gb of GDDR5 RAM):
And yes, OpenGL triple buffering is on.

Driver's definitely up to date - just double-checked.
Adobe state that the suggested minimum required VRAM is 1Gb, not 2 (Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Help | Lightroom GPU FAQ)... Are you saying that this may not strictly be correct? Appreciate that minimum doesn't always equate with ideal!

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I can't say why, or how I heard, but it's reliable. You don't need to go high end though.

Thanks John. Looks like Adobe need to be clearer as to what the minimum spec really is then. Also looks like I might need a new GPU... But I'd really like a bit more clarity from Adobe before I jump in and buy one as I might end up not meeting another of their unwritten criteria...

I needed a new GPU and deliberately chose that one. I'm sure others will do just as well.
Some of these new GPUs are enormous and can be awkward to squeeze into your computer. Think about that, and then take more care than I did.... In fitting it I needed to move around some of the internal hard drives and managed to damage the pins on my C drive, screwing up my PC for 2-3 weeks!

Ouch. That's always a concern for me when upgrading PC hardware - breaking something!

‌I'm in the same spot, was happy with LR5 and now am dealing with a bluish tint that I hate. Don't know if I can, and should consider, changing the NVIDIA GPU on my 2010 MacBookPro, or give up and accept that the replacement cycle has finally run its course... I have just updated the HD with a very satisfactory SSD unti which makes the Mac feel like new, I hate the idea of not running it through 2016...

Yes but that's not what the minimum requirements state! My drivers are up to date and still nothing. There is an AMD issue I think.

Failed here as well. My GPU has 1024mb of VRAM. Tried installing newest 14.5 drivers too....Hopefully they fix this as GPU acceleration is the only reason I upgraded.

obviously, i immediately updated my drivers to no avail.
worth noting the my openGL version is 6.14.10 so that can't be the issue either.

To clarify: I've tested it with the latest stable version of the catalyst drivers, and now the latest beta (15.4), and the AMD autodetect tool declares "Your system already has the latest driver installed."
Looks like there's definitely a general problem with AMD Radeon HD cards.
