P: Adding to/Creation of a new Target collection takes minutes unless Sync is paused

Hello everyone.

I've been using LR for a long time, previously on an intel based Windows 10 laptop. It was a bit slow, but usable.

Now I am using m1 macbookair, both MacOS and LR are up to date and the issue persists.

Since couple versions ago - LR is not usable for me. My collection is huge, has photos on several external hard drives, but i mostly use one, with most current shots. Since 3-6 months my LR is UNUSABLE. I push the B key to add image to target collection - nothing happens. I push it again - nothing happens. After couple minutes - some photos appear in the target collection, others don't, because i pushed the button more than once. It's very annoying. Sync activity goes back to some photos on random external hdd (not currently connected) form way back - i haven't done anything with those photos but there are sync errors for some reason, because why not?

Also - i create a collection - and it doesn't appear immediately.I create another one - after 20 minutes LR wakes up, that the collection I want to create has to have a unique name and boom, the firs one I created magically appears. Seriously - my impression is that this has something to do with syncing - as I sync some collections to cloud to be ableto do some additional culling on my mobile while on the go.

I cannot work like this and instead of having a pleasant experience with culling photos - I am very annoyed and I am unable to work like that. What can i do to make it work smooth again?

Target collection can also be "synced with cloud" collection, so your question is kind of vague. The lags are with all kinds of collections, no matter synced or not - if you've enabled the sync - the lags start. The fact that some people seem to go on with no problems is that they don't have enough collections collected in their libraries to trigger this bug.

The bug is due to faulty code in the "new" cloud sync engine they introduced ONE YEAR AGO, and it IS NOT YET FIXED! It can present itself as lags in MANY VARIOUS seemingly unrelated operations within Lightroom. But I have figured out it is DIRECTELY RELATED to the amount of albums and collections you have in your library. If you have a lot of them (like I do, literally hundreds of albums for all sorts of publishing services, hard disk publishing, smart collections, regular collections, etc) you are in for a WORLD OF PAIN, because Adobe QE doesn't test for libraries with huge amount of collections and albums and they report all good bug fixed.

Currently the only workaround for those of us who are overgrown with albums is to TURN OFF THE CLOUD SYNC completely. Even then there is sometimes a lag creating new album, but it is manageable. With cloud sync ON lightroom classic IS UNUSABLE on a library with lots of albums -collections.

Just want to add this issue is still a thing for me on 14.1.1 on macOS 15.3. I can hit B to add to non-synced Quick Collection and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I also can't drag items to collections at times.

@DaMoroshka! , you stated "Adding new images to collection lags atrociously after some time working with Lightroom, even with sync on pause (but there are images in the sync queue)"

Can you clarify, are  you  referring  to a Collection that is set to Sunc to Adobe Creative Cloud  or to a targeted Collection?

Same issue for me with LRC14.0.1. Have to wait more than 10 minutes ...

I am still having this issue, so obviously the bug was not fixed. Adding new images to collection lags atrociously after some time working with Lightroom, even with sync on pause (but there are images in the sync queue)

@wroublin

I am no longer able to replicate this issue using the recipe posted earlier. I suspect your issue might be different.  Would you consider posting complete information in a new thread?

I thought the issue has been fixed untill today - I was told by my model, that part of the photos are missing in my shared collection. When I tried to add them - boom! there it is... It again takes AGES to see that a photo has been added to synced collection, even after pausing sync. Also, same is true for any change I make to the photo. Even minor exposure update.

Oh, I have a mayor problem with the LRc 14 update....it suddenly requires MacOS 13.1 or later, which my old iMac dosen't get...

The iMac is connected to external storage and just uploads the images for editing with different devices. This worked perfectly till LRc 13.3. Since then the upload to the Adobe cloud is completly broken.

Well, I guess with this update Adobe locked me out...
