When using the denoise or enhance features, it would be great if the filters selected in the Develop module would continue to stay selected.
Currently, if I have a set of filters - like hiding rejected images, or specific color tags - and then decide to enahnce or denoise an image, whenever Lightroom finishes processing, it resets all of my filters back to showing everything.
If I've already rejected an image - or 100 - I clearly don't want to see them, and don't want to have to keep clicking the desired filter after every single enhancing/denoising process, just to get rid of the clutter. Sometimes, I can batch enhance or denoise, but other times I need to do it one at a time , and repeating this process for 100-200 images, for example, wastes a lot of time and is incredibly annoying.
If you lock the filters via File > Library Filters > Lock Filters or click the lock icon on the right end of the Library Filter bar, then the LR commands that generate DNGs (Photo Merge, Enhance) won't reset the current filter.
@Holten: "When using AI denoise, the filter is forgotten."

This should be on by default IMHO.

Thanks, John! This seems to fix the issue I was having.

Lightroom Classic, v12.3, WIN11.
Hi All,
when i'm culling photos, i use star system. Now, i choose 2* images in library filter to show only ones to be edited ... i'm going one by one.... And here is the thing...
When i use AI DENOISE and new dng is created, my custom filter is being removed... So again i can see hundreds of pics instead of choosen 2*.
As new dng inherits star mark i can see no reason to reset the filter (especially if i'm stacking new one with original).
I know i can lock custom filter - but it's not a solution.
Hope that can be fixed in next update(s).
Cheers,
Michal

hi @johnrellis,
thanks. I know that and stated that in my post... but it is just a work around.... i simply expect permanent FIX...

Why is locking the filter not a solution?

We'll... Simply speaking...
If the padlock is unlocked and I change the source of the search (eg. another Folder) Lightroom resets all the search rules created.
And this is perfectly fine and how it suppose to be.
Whatever I do in given folder should stay the same until I change that. That applies to filtering too.
Now, if I'm processing files in given folder I move from one pic to another among filtered files.... But when using denoise lightroom decides to know better what I want... And resets filtering...
It's also simply counterintuitive... As I haven't changed source... filter should stay the same.
Why it is not doing that if I create virtual copies? Or merge panorama?
I cannot see any reason to work differently only for "enhanced" feature.

The unlocked behavior of resetting filters also occurs with Photo > Photo Merge > HDR / Panorama. Adobe employee Benjamin Warde said this was by design:
"This is by design, since otherwise (depending on filter settings) you could end up being unable to see the pano or HDR merge that you’d just made."
So I think it's very unlikely Adobe would change the behavior at this point. The most you could hope for is a preference option disabling that behavior.

hi @johnrellis,
not really. Obviously this has been changed in time...
Just duble checked... i have active filter for 2 stars... where are also my images for panorama starred.
When i merge them into Pano... they are stacked, pano gets 2 stars and my filter does not change... i can still see 2 stars...
So no.. i cannot still see any valid point behind the reseting filter bahevior... and it looks like a bug....

oh, sorry, @johnrellis, you were right... it is reseting filter... 😕 i had locked the filter before... (WHERE THE HECK IS EDIT POST OPTION HERE!) what still is sh**ty... 😕 as it hasn;t been fixed since 2017 i guess it will never be...
anyways argument that "you could end up being unable to see the pano or HDR merge that you’d just made." is not valid, as pano gets star rating as the pictures had... 😕
thank you for your time and clarifications...

(The forum won't let people with too few posts edit them, unfortunately.)
I think a use case Adobe was originally thinking of is: You set the filter to show raws only. Then merging produces a DNG, which isn't displayed due to the filter.
I understand the use case, though I don't agree with their conclusion that merging and enhancing should reset the filter. And I also don't understand why they decided to do that when the filters are unlocked but not when they are locked. The same reasoning applies to both cases.

Thank you @johnrellis.
Time flies... I would be good if Adobe could rethink some things....
Thanks again 🙂
PS. I use dng only.
PPS. Another strange thing that new users cannot edit their posts.... It makes a bit of mess and creates more irrelevant posts...

When using AI denoise, the filter is forgotten.
Hop to reproduce:
Mark a few images as "picked". Set filter "flagged" so only these images is shown. Use AI desnoise on one of those images.
Expected result:
The filter should still be in place after the AI denoise is done.
Actual result:
The filter is forgotten and all images in the collection are shown.

When I edit pics, LRC, I often flag the photos within a folder to edit. In the Develp tab, I filter to just flagged photos and do my edits. Been doing it this way since LF had flags many years ago. I find that when I use the DeNoise feature recently intorducted, on top of taking a long time to process like others report, it then changes the view by removing the flag only filter and showing all images. Hoping this is resolved in the next patch/update.

This is not a bug and does not need to be fixed. What you need to do is lock your filter. Click on the little padlock icon in the right corner of the filter bar.

When viewing my images in the Develop module with a star filter rating, I have been commonly running the new Ai Denoise feature. It is really great!
My one gripe is that everytime I choose to run Ai Denoise on an image it removes my star rating filter and I have to apply it again.
This is truly a minor incovinence and my hopes are that in writing this is that someday there will be a patch and it will save me more time in the future than it took to write this.

You can already do as you ask by using the lock at right hand side of the filter bar. I've attatched a screenshot shwoing where the lock is located.
