P: Improved Fuji X-Trans Support?

Contributor ,
Jul 02, 2014 Jul 02, 2014

Is Fuji X-Trans support being worked on?I appreciate that the support is better now than it was, but the reality is that Lightroom is still a long way behind other RAW developers, all of which are less well funded and with smaller teams working on the software.Lightroom has been the leader in RAW processing an image cataloging as far back as I can recall; but with the Fuji X-Trans files many people I know are leaving Adobe Lightroom for one of the many other developers, all of which are producing far better results than Adobe Lightroom.Ones I have personally tested are as follows: Iridient DeveloperPhoto NinjaLightZoneCapture OneApertureSilkyPixRaw TherapeeIridient is very good, and this is a piece of software made by a single man.My question is, if he can get it right, why can't Adobe? They have been leaders in innovation for many years but it seems in some areas now they are falling behind - I have never seen so many people leave a major developer for smaller independent ones, but to Fuji users (both enthusiasts and professionals) it's a pretty simple decision when you compare results. So all I'd like to know is if my patience sticking with Lightroom is justified, and whether a solution is being worked on - or will always be worked on. Or is it a case that the users wanting such a change are not enough to support such work.

You won't regret it - after all, Capture 1 care about customers and Adobe don't. It really is as simple as that. They are too busy wondering why their stock value has been falling since December.

Adobe are totally ignorant of their customers - 2 years and no reply from them despite this being in the top 5 problems on the consumer > developer forum.

I waited a whole year and gave up and sold my Lightroom and now use Capture 1.

Screw  Adobe and their attitude to customers.

Adobe has history of being arrogant SOB's. They think their current monopoly is impregnable, and this is incorrect. The shouts of happiness will be deafening when their castle crumbles.

Dear fujiguys, I've compared the RAW conversion from the old and the fresh bugfixed LR CC 6.2 version and I found there is no apparent changes in X-Trans RAW processing, i.e. the images still have the mentioned drawbacks. If you observe the opposite please give us know here.

According to the changelog https://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjour... there is no info about X-Trans optimization as well.

This thread is very important. Adobe, please read this and act.

I'm a new owner of Fujifilm X-M1, upgrading from X-A1. I was so surprised to find out that I have to use a free minor program, RawTherapee to get the details out of my RAF files. My workflow used to go through Adobe Camera Raw but not anymore!
If you want me back, please get your software on par with competition by providing competitive X-Trans RAW support!

I was about to buy a Fuji system in order to switch from Sony in a week. I've red the thread and I'm feeling quite frustrated now. So I'm forced by Adobe (in a figurative sence) not to switch to Fuji. I did huge comparison work but such a dissapointment at the last moment. LR+PS workflow did well for me up to now as I get that Adobe does not want to follow essential suggestions for months.

Been using LR since it was a beta program. Over the last few years I've bought heavily into the Fuji X line and love the cameras as I know many people in this area do too (NYC). The main pain I experience is what others have said here - that the RAW conversion in LR simply isn't as good as others.
Just wanted to let the Adobe developers know (currently developing LR 6) there are many more of us who never write on these forums who would LOVE a fix to this.

My favorite raw converter is Lightroom. It does a great job with Canon raws, but I'm deeply disappointed by how LR renders x-trans files. The output is very subpar compared to other developers & compared to what one would expect from a antialiasing-filter free 16mp sensor. LR images with x-trans aren't useable for professional use.

Best,
Fujifilm & Canon ILC user

Lightroom 6 is due to be out soon. So at least i hope it gets fixed in that version. We are all heavily invested in Adobe products, or just Lightroom. Don't really want to change over to another product but rest assure i will as it seems Adobe is not taking it seriously enough.

Any Adobe employee want to chime in please?

Wow! This thread is quite enlightening! I am a newbie photographer, having just purchased my first 'real' camera (Fuji X-T1) in March 2014. So I have had lots to learn about photography as well as Lightroom and processing raw images. I have been trying to make my LR processed images look as good as or better than the SOOC jpegs and often fall short regarding sharpness, clarity, and detail. As you might guess, i have overused the obvious LR tools in order to try to compensate. Granted, some of my issues are operator error, ignorance, or an untrained eye, but learning that others have had difficulty rendering clear, sharp results in LA makes me curious to try some of the aforementioned softwares.

I bought a Fuji Camera too. I've been using Lightroom and PS for some time and I wanna still using those products because I feel very confortable with them and my current workflow depend on them. However I still feeling that the last version of lightroom does not perform very well with X-trans sensor and I have to use Raw Therapee to get the best results and work with the TIFF version in 16bits. I don't like that.
Please, improve Lightroom usage of Fuji RAW files.

Please buy Iridient Digital (Iridient Digital - http://iridientdigital.com) and integrate their raw conversion for Fuji x-trans into lightroom. That will solve most of our (fuji users) problems with your software. Thanks.

I use LR and love it. I've switched from Canon to the Fuji X family. Generally I find the results of LR conversions to be acceptable. That said I would like to see LR conversions improved as I don't want to complicate my workflow with using other converters.

Oh and kudos to Adobe and the Lightroom team for the Fuji film style emulation profiles.

Hey guys, I love to work with Lightroom as it complements my professional workflow. Yet, I started shooting with the Fuji X-T1 in addition to my Nikon kit and I have the impression Lightroom could do better. Please improve the RAW rendering of Fuji RAW files and please include the lens profiles for the lens correction, as well.

I'm new to the X100T and Xtrans sensors in general. But I can say definitively from my own experience that the RAW conversion problem in LR 5.7 and Camera Raw in general has not been fixed. In fact I'm finding the results so poor as to render the images useless when processed by Lightroom, even with high levels of sharpening applied.

See the example below. The detail crop on the left is a RAW file processed by Iridient Developer, and by Lightroom 5.7 on the right. Each is displayed at 100% scale.

I have years invested in LR both as a catalog for image archive spanning 13 years of digital imagery, but also as my RAW conversion and editing package. At this stage I will probably sell my X100T due the inability to maintain my existing image editing workflow with Lightroom and Photoshop.

iridient developer is the way to go, then just use lightroom to catalog your images, capture one pro produces great images but is way too cumbersome in my book, not to mention 300.00. seems like the latest update was just "more of the same"

Out of interest, have any of you come across this method for using LR detail slider to obtain Deconvolution sharpening that claims to be as good as Irident Developer? See http://petebridgwood.com/wp/2014/10/x... and comments from various people who have tried it out (in particular on images other than landscapes) at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/for...
Haven't tried it out myself yet, but will be a huge relief to me if I can do everything within LR and not have to learn a new program/workflow and pay for additional software.

Interested to hear your thoughts if you've tried this out on portraits.
