Release 14.2 cannot open Lightroom edited photos in Photoshop 26.5 or Photoshop Beta 26.6. Opens Smart Objects without a problem.
This problem typically manifests when the Uninstall of any version of Photoshop is the last Photoshop Install/Reinstall operation performed. If the last whole-app operation is an install or a reinstall, it typically cures the issue. The Photoshop team is aware of the issue
It normally happens to customers who have more than one version of Photoshop installed or are running the current version alongside a Photoshop Beta version.

Some clues in this help page- EDIT IN Photoshop command missing
Photos 'missing' commonly cause this problem. Check for these.
Some using a Beta version of Photoshop also strike this problem.
And yes, re-installing 1) Photoshop v26.5, then 2) Lightroom-Classic (in that order!!) may be helpful.

Photos aren't missing as I mentioned...its happening to every photo which none of my photos have moved off my local drive...period. I'm not using a beta version of PS, and PS isn't the only option greyed out, its all options. This isn't a photoshop problem.
If then the only option is to uninstall and reinstall SW, this is a ridiculous option. I fear my catalog or something else will be lost when doing this. Gotta be a better explanation.

Unfortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling both apps made no difference. What else ya got?

You are not the only one seeing this issue. I have been working with a friend who is seeing this in some of his LrC catalogs. He is using a Mac and running the latest versions of everything. Since you are using a PC, that seems to indicate it's not something in the OS causing the problem. My friend has some catalogs that work properly and others that do not, so that seems to indicate it's some corruption of the catalog, not a problem with the LrC program. We have been doing some experimenting and have more planned, but so far it's a mystery to us what is causing the problem and how to fix it. FYI, he is also seeing other problems beyond the grayed out Edit in options.

@jpm5150 You say "all the images I'm trying to edit are local" and "none of my photos have moved off my local drive..". This may be the case, but does Lr-Classic THINK they are 'Missing'? Do you see exclamation marks on the borders of grid view previews? Do you see question marks on Folders in the folder panel? Do you use Smart Previews?
Re-installing the Apps will not lose or damage your Catalog, and you do regurlarly back up the catalog, don't you.?
This is what I see when an image is 'Missing'- Total greyed out:
I cannot exclude Catalog corruption but I don't have knowledge to help there other than suggest restore from a catalog backup as a test, or create a new catalog with a few imported images and test.

No question marks, no question marks, no previews...its seeing the original file.

Post a screen-clip of the total LrC UI. It may provide clues for another person to diagnose your problem.
Also post a creen-clip of the System Info Report. MENU > Help > System Info...
Posting in this forum thread will keep your problem fresh for others to see and respond. I'm sorry I do not have the answer.

Follow up on my prior post.
My friend was seeing four types of problems with his LrC catalog:
1. Edit-in was grayed out (same as seen by the OP here),
2. Keywords were not displayed in the right hand panels, even though photos seemed to have keywords since it was possible to use the filter bar to see keywords and to filter photos using keywork metadata,
3. Attributes such as color, stars that were added or removed from files did not display in either Library or Grid mode, even though photos seemed to have the attributes since it was possible to use the filter bar to filter photos using attribute metadata,
4. The info display set up using View Options was missing.
We spent many hours deleting and resetting preferences, deleting and reloading LrC, and experimenting with multiple LrC catalog files including backups from over a year. Often it would appear the lrcat file was working properly, but as we used it for a while (10-30min), problems gradually started to appear until problems were occuring for all photos. Bizarre!!
After many frustrating hours of experiments, we gave up on analyzing the problem and decided to start with a fresh catalog. We created a new LrC catalog, imported >50K photos into it. Those photos had no edits, keywords, attributes, etc, in the catalog. We then took a recent lrcat file, that was showing major problems, opened it and did "Save Metadata File" for all >50K photos. It took ~10min to write all the XML sidecar files. We then re-opened the new LrC catalog and did "Read Metadata from File" for all >50K photos. That took a few minutes. At the end of that process everything seemed to be working properly. We used the file for a while and it seemed to be stable. We have declared victory, but will be watching to see if there is any return of problems.
This is extremely bizarre. I can offer no reasonable explanation for what we were seeing. The only thing that may matter is that all the catalogs that were showing problems had been converted from prior versions of LrC. The new catalog, that seems to be OK, was created by the latest version of LrC, and all the photos were imported and all the edits and metadata were imported from XML sidecar files. Once we gave up trying to understand the source of the problems and started fresh it did not take long.

Hi @jpm5150 and @DClark064! 👋
Unfortunately, the Edit in Photoshop option not working in Lightroom Classic is an issue that came up after the update to Photoshop 26.5. I'll merge your thread with the main one. The team is currently investigating this.
In the meantime, some users have found that having multiple versions of Photoshop installed or having Photoshop Beta installed might be causing the problem. Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop to see if that helps?
Thanks a bunch!

Aleke, I think you did not read the postings carefully. This issue goes far beyond edit in PS.

I have been experiencing this for a month or longer now.
I have uninstalled both LR and Photoshop.
Reinstalled latest versions of each.
Uninstalled PS then rolled back to previous version of PS
Cleared preferences in LR
uninstalled the whole CC suit and reinstalled the whole suite.
updated LRCand PS to latest version.
Uninstalled Photoshop., Installed the Beta version.
Uninstalled Beta.
I'm going to completely remove the whole CC suit again....
Can Adobe maybe, just maybe release versions of software that have ZERO new functions and only bug fixes, and then highlight those versions? I am so sick of dealing with an endless string of issues. I swear I spend more time troubleshooting than I do using the software....
System specs:
This is a practically fresh install of everything on a Dec 2024 M4 mini, Creative Cloud, google drive, and software for printer and monitor are the only things I have installed on this machine.

Hello, I just installed Photoshop 26.5. After this installation, LR wouldnot transfer raw files to Photoshop for editing. I rolled back to my lastversion of Photoshop 2025 26.41 and now the LR transfer to Photoshop worksagain.

By @metropolics
There's no need to role back to the former version. If you have installed the Beta of Photoshop deinstall this and then reinstall PS26.5 using the Creatrive Cloud Client by keeping the preferences.

Hi everyone,
After trying this or that after reading some posts here I have uninstalled PS26.5 and installed 26.4.1 and everything was fine. And now I have LR Classic 14.2, PS 26.5.0 & Camera Raw 14.2 working alltogether. This is the adventure:
I have forgotten the problem and have said "update all" to the alert of Creative Cloud app about new updates and got PS 26.5 again on the machine. And saw that everything goes on working!? Even "open as layers in PS".
But if you choose "Edit in PS" or "Edit as layers..." on LRC, PS doesn't comes to front automatically and you have to bring it to front.
Maybe it is the uninstalling & launching the older version and updating after that or maybe it is the new version of PS Beta which did good for us. Maybe these all does good for someone else. (This is a MacPro Late 2019 with MacOs Sonoma 14.6.1. here.)
Good luck

Normally the deletion of the preferences isn't necessary.
If you have Photoshop Beta installed and you need the Beta the update to Beta 26.6 can be helpful.
In my case I deinstalled the Beta and reinstall Photoshop 26.5 without deleting the preferences and the editing in Photoshop is working again..
