Pano | Photo Merge Error "Unable to merge the photos"

Hi:  I've never had a problem with merging 2 or more photos to create a panorama.  But now I'm getting this merge error.

It doesn't matter if I'm trying to merge 2 photos or 20 photos - I get the same error even though LR is able to merge them and reder a preview.  The error only occurs when I start the merging task

Here are some screenshots of the LR pano preview and the error message.

I tried to create the pano in PS and was able to create one, but I rather do the pano in LR.

Someone please help - thanks in advance

Initial troubleshooting steps:

1. Do Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here.

2. Select two or three photos that won't merge and upload them to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and post the sharing link here. We can see if the problem is with the photos or your LR installation.

What are you trying to accomplish in the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App?

My first assumption is to change where LrC gets installed. But why?

My LR 11.4.1 / Windows 10 created the panorama with the same settings, so it's not a problem with the photos per se.

The full C drive does look like the proximate cause of the issue. I used a developer tool to monitor my Windows LR while it created that panorama, and it wrote an 8 GB temp file on the C drive.  But your screenshot shows only 3 GB free.

But rather than installing the LR app on another drive, which will only save 2.5 GB, moving photos and the catalog folder to another drive will potentially free up a lot more space.

The photos and catalog are on the G drive so there is definitely enough space.

I wanted to change the location of where LR is installed because I thought there wasn't enough space on the C drive for LR to write temp files while trying to create the panorama file.

But your response seems to say there is enough space on the C drive for that 8gb temp file.

Is there an Adobe tech that can help?

"I wanted to change the location of where LR is installed because I thought there wasn't enough space on the C drive for LR to write temp files while trying to create the panorama file. But your response seems to say there is enough space on the C drive for that 8gb temp file."

No, I wrote that it does look like it's the lack of space on C for the 8 GB temp file that is causing the problem:

"The full C drive does look like the proximate cause of the issue. I used a developer tool to monitor my Windows LR while it created that panorama, and it wrote an 8 GB temp file on the C drive.  But your screenshot shows only 3 GB free."

Since you've already placed your catalogs and photos on other drives, you do need to find other ways to free up space on C, since putting aside the issues with LR, you'll run into other problems soon enough.

I can't help with your problems with installing Creative Cloud apps on another drive, perhaps someone else can.

For the problem with panoramas in particular, you can change your Windows account to relocate the folder apps use for temp files.  In the Windows Start search box, type "control panel", then click User Accounts > Change My Environment Variables.  Change TEMP and TMP to refer to a folder on another drive (make sure you create that folder):

johnrellis_0-1659889722244.png

Restart your computer.  LR (and all other apps) will use the new temp folder.  I verified that LR uses the new location for panorama temp files.

Be aware that apps generally expect the temp folder to reside on a fast drive, so if you point temp to a slower drive, you can get a performance hit.

Ok, so concerns on C drive available space, hence attempt to relocate program. Probably not the most beneficial option.

1. Where do you keep your Camera RAW CACHE used by LrC, now that should clear upon LrC closure, but while in use (develop mode) it's location can effect performance. On a Windows computer, best if not on same drive as Windows paging file (typically the Camera RAW and Paging file will compete for read/wrights on the hard drive, , And best if on fastest non C drive.

2. Other documents. Speaking of files that are not programs, what files are on C that could be on another drive? Letters, pictures, images, spreadsheets, etc.

3. Files in download directory no longer directly needed. Say, updates, installs, etc, that were downloaded, then run to install programs. If needed for later, could be moved to non C drive.

4. Recycle bin. Things are not actually gone just because they were deleted.

5. Old programs no longer used, older versions of programs still on computer.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean in #1

For #2 to #5, to be honest, I'm not sure what's going on with this desktop - I got it from my brother who moved on to another desktop.  Here is a screenshot of all the drives on the current desktop I'm using to run LRC and Creative Cloud.

It looks like the C: like you said is at capacity.  I've managed to uninstall a few gaming programs that my brother was using to free up space.  Honestly, I'm not even sure what on my C: drive I can move over to another drive that has more space (e.g., the G: or E drives).

I guess I have to call adobe and see if they can give me some tech support because this is getting ridiculous

Several documents on the web on cleaning up Windows, for example
